Just wanted to say thanx to Dan in customer service who was very helpful with a fielding a call from me yesterday. I was having a problem with my 20th Silo on the E, A, and D strings with nut buzz and intonation problems. Heres what was goin on---the setup was dead on factory specs and the nut appeared to be beautifully cut, polished and the slots clean------but heres where the problem was----upon reflection, and close inspection--the problem was clear finish buildup behind the nut!!!!!!! I'm assuming that the headstock must have been shot with clear after the nut was installed and this caused some of the clear to build up in the back edge of the nut slots creating a poor break angle. Now this is a tip only for the truly experienced out there(if you have never cut or repaired nuts yourself---DO NOT try this at home---you can blow the nut in an instant!!)---but after carefully filing out the clear(it wasn't much--but enough to cause a problem) and polishing the back of the slots--the break angle was restored and all is well!!! So , in short, if you are having a problem like this---don't automatically assume the nut is faulty---check for clear buildup on the back of the nut!!!!!!!! Off to play my 20th!!!
