I broke the volume pot off of my BC BOngo tonight!!!

I had both of the BOngos in my 3 space rack and I pulled out my old P to tune it. When I set it back in the rack, I hit the volume knob on the BOngo and severely bent it. Well, of course I tried to bend it back into shape. I got it pretty close and played it all night. At the end of the evening I decided to just tweak it a little more to get it just right and it snapped off.

Oh well, I'll just have to call CS tomorrow morning and buy a new pot from them. Such is life.

ON a serious note: That freak'n sucks and if that happened to my bass, I don't think I'd be able to look at it w/o cringing until I got that pot back on there. Hope it comes fast!

Man, I know just how you feel. I was tuning up before a gig several years ago when one of the tremolo mounting posts broke on a Grosh str@t that was my main guitar at the time. Because it was dark, I couldn't really tell what was wrong and I was somewhat distracted all night. Not a good feeling.

On a more positive note, I KNOW EB CS will be much better to deal with than the company I was dealing with.

Good luck with that replacement pot.

so you could in theory replace the skinny flacid pots with ones with much more girth?

The only reason I had the P with me was for "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong". It's a very good bass for slap. Much better than a BOngo 5er with flats on it.

You know, my Stingrays were great for slap as well, but I just couldn't justify keeping a bunch of 4 stringers around just to use on a song or two. The P was my dad's bass when he passed away so I can never sell it. But I don't mind taking it out and playing it from time to time either.

I don't slap very much or very well and it was the bass that I learned slap on so to me it's comfortable for that style.

John, last night was the first time we played that song in public and it went over well. We had one whole rehearsal before.

to me the only minor bummer about sending in a bass for service is finding a box - cuz im lazy. LoL.

but they'll hook you up and as a bonus you know Jon's gonna be dealing with your Bongo and its gonna play better than ever once he's thru w/ it

Actually, I'm kind of hoping they'll just let me buy a new pot. I don't have any qualms about installing it myself. I just don't want to hassle with shipping it out and waiting for it to come back. A new pot could be here in a few days and I could have it installed in a few minutes.

Larry..Call customer service. They will sell you a new pot. If you are comfortable with a soldering iron, you'll be just fine doing it yourself, but it isn't like a regular pot. It is soldered to a circuit board.

I haven't taken it apart yet but I figured from the way it looks to be built that the pot was soldered directly to the circuit board.

Thanks for weighing in Jon. I am very comfortable with a soldering iron. I hate making stupid mistakes but at least this one didn't damage the beautiful finish on my BOngo.

Its a cool tune. The riff in its self isnt that bad its just doing it repetitively through the whole song that makes it kind of difficult for me. Im not much of a slapper so it kind of wears out my stamina after awhile. Im glad it went well for ya Larry especially with just one rehersal prior!!!

I know what you mean about the repetitive part of it. I'm glad when it gets to the G - Bb - C section of the song just to break the monotony.

The guys in my band are really good about learning their parts before we get into rehearsal. It does make for pretty quick work on new songs when everyone already knows their parts.
