Hi Guys! Thanks to Bing4Sons and jimmyD (I think that was his name) I'm on the forum now. I read many of you guys' post and really enjoyed it.

I just ordered me a Axis Super Sport with Hardtail, Natural Top, MM-90, Piezo. However wondering if I should have went with Humbuckers instead. Unfortunely It's not easy finding a dealer with EBMM and to top it off, finding a dealer with both MM-90 and HH is next to Impossible.

I play 98% Contemp Christian Music and will be using Reverend Amp (GOblin or Kingsnake).

Those with MM-90 and/or Humbuckers, Could you tell me the reason for your decision. or any other tips will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I placed an order for this guitar 3 weeks ago. If I were to go with Humbuckers, Is it too late to do so? or is that somthin only my dealer can answer.

Thanks

I have no comment on what pups you should get, but I'm pretty sure that it's not too late to change your order. Call up your dealer.

That's gonna be a beautiful guitar. I think they go with the cream mm90 pickups on that. Not sure, maybe someone at the company will see this and confirm.

As for whether you should get the humbuckers instead, depends on what you play now. Plus, the hums would be zebras (not that this fact only should be the determining factor, just one).

If you currently play and prefer single coils, I'd stay with the mm90's you ordered. It'll cover plenty of bases. If you're a humbucker player now, you might consider changing your order. Or waiting until you decide to order a second.

Congratulations and it's always exciting awaiting your first ernie ball.

I purchased a MM90 about 6 months ago and love it. I had never had P90's before and wished I had found them earlier. I have a S/S/H Axis Sport, Les Paul Deluxe and a Guild S-300. These 3 guitars dont get out much anymore and if I could only keep one, it would be the Super Sport MM90. I changed the knobs and covers to black and also had a custom pickguard made for it. No I did not use screws. If you would like a picture, I will send you one.

Good luck,

Kevin

That sounds like a sweet guitar Kevin - why don't you post a pic here so we can all see it? you can upload it using the "Insert Image" button at the top of the posting box...

Welcome to the forum, songman.... glad you got the technical difficulties sorted... As for which model Axis you should get, I advise getting BOTH! :D Ya, I know that doesn't help much, but I don't think you can go wrong with either guitar, really...

I'm dying to get an Axis SS w/ MM90s!!!! I can't find one.

Went to GC yesterday and played a 1978 Les Paul Goldtop w/ P90s ... the p90s sound like heaven for everything I played except Slayer songs. Honest. It could do it all ..... from Stray Cats to Social Distortion to Green Day to blues and even metal (w/o pinch harmonics). So if you're not playing crazy metal the MM90s should rule!

Due to my brand loyalty to EB (and the $1800 pricetag) i didnt get the LP and am not really wanting an ASS w/ MM90s. Uncle Sam owes me over $700 so if I find one soon ill be all over it ... if not ill order one from Bassplyr

Thanks guys!

I am very excited about my A.S.S and I Know I should make my pickup decision soon so that I don't delay the order even more. I guess there is only one real way to find out if I like the MM-90 or not.

One of my main reason for choosing ASS was the feel of the neck and it's size. I thought about the JP but I didn't think neck would fit my hand better than ASS, since I have small hand and JP has Larger nut and upper fret width compare to ASS.

ALso, How heavy is ASS equipped with MM-90 compare to ASS humbuckers?
I understand that MM-90 is Ash body and the other is basswood. How many pounds?

SO how about them weith differences btween Bass wood on Humbuckers and ash wood(mm-90). How many pounds could I expect from MM-90 equipped A.S.S compare to Humbucker A.S.S. ?
Thanks

If there's any difference, I think the Ash might be a little heavier... both are nice woods, but my Ash bodied Axes varry in weight between 6½ and 8 lbs, while the Basswood ones seem fairly consistent. FWIW, my Axis Super Sport MM90 is one of the lightest Axes I own even with the uber-flamey maple top, while my Vans Warped Tour graphic Axis Sport MM90 is probably the heaviest Axis I've got, and both have Swamp Ash bodies...

That's a great pick Axis Sport - what a beautiful Axis! The guard really suits it... :)
