I just got my self a used music man silhouette special and the 1st owner changed out the bridge pick up to some kind of Dimarzio (think a Evolution) and it just dose not do it for me. I was thinking about some thing with more bottom end. any ways I just need to know if Music Man Guitars pickups are F spaced.

Hay mate and WELCOME. Congrats on the silo matre. Great guitars. Pick up suggestions are a personal taste but I always find duncans are a little thicker than dimarzios.

PS as a general rule here..... you guitar does not exist of there are no pics!!!

Stick around as this is a great place to hang with a tone of great info and players.

Cheers,

J

Howdy Nouse,

Yeah, try a Dimarzio Norton in the bridge (colorful, fat, warm, good punch and harmonics) absolute great pickup with that Silo!!!

Oh, and yes, they are "F" spaced.

Actually, the Axis pick up, I think sounds "better" than the Tone Zone. A little more character and personality, but a little less loud.

I really dig the DM Breed in the Sil Special (rw board), but I seem to be the only here who does.

I think the Breed Neck sounds great in the bridge of an HSS guitar made of alder. Awesome big tone that balances really well with Single Coils.
The Norton is also a super sweet sounding pickup.
If you want a Seymour Duncan, the Screamin' Demon sounds really smooth and has a very clear bottom end, no mud.

Are you sure they are F spaced? I thought F spaced Dimarzio pickups were for Floyd equipped guitars?

Common Mistake made between F-Spaced and Regular spacing.
F-Spaced is for Floyd Rose, which is the SAME as Fender. That's why Dimarzio chose 'F-Spaced' instead of Floyd Spaced. That way it works for both.
Regular spacing is for older Gibson Spacing.
From Dimarzio:
"F-spacing refers to the wider of the two spacings. For proper string alignment and balanced output, F-spaced humbuckers should be used in the bridge position on all guitars with string spacing at the bridge of 2.1" (53 mm) or greater. On these guitars, if the nut width is 1-11/16” (43 mm) or greater, F-spaced pickups can be used in the neck position as well."

Read more there under 'pickup faq'

But it is surely F-Spaced on the Silhouette Special.

Yeah I was thinking about the "Breed" or the "Super 3" From Dimarzio. Thanks for the info guys. as for you guys that want to see the guitar here it is. The Color is purple pearl (hence the custom purple pickup from dimarzio in the bridge) not a Burgundy color like it shows up with my flash and from the info I got from ernie ball it was made in 1997. I got it used and from what I was told it used to belong to the touring guitar player of Nsync when they where in their hayday! Not like I really care about that or anything.

At least your guitar has some serious rock and roll heritage!

Nice Silo Spec. If it were mine I'd opt for a PAF Pro DP151 or a PAF 36th Anniversary DP223, good all-round pups that would match well with the singles. The PAF Pro was stock in that Silo Spec if I recall correctly. But you couldn't go wrong with a Norton or TZ for more bottom end and higher output out of the hummer.

You also might want to look at an Air Zone DP192, go to the DM web-site and read about it's characteristics. Sounds intersting to me.
