I'm a matching headstock fan - but for some reason I wanted, and still prefer my DD1 with the natty headstock. It just looks better to me...

For me it's a personal preference thing. I like the look the wood has on the headstock and offsets from the painted body. I had a painted HS, but for some reason to me it just wasn't right. It has moved me to not make purchases in the past and probably will in the future.

I have 1 rosewood headstock on rosewood neck, 3 maple/maples, 1 painted/rosewood, and 1 maple/rosewood. I love the natty headstocks, but will admit I'm not a huge fan of the natty maple with rosewood neck. But, that's only 1 of 5 where it's noticeable. Overall, I really prefer to see the natural grain and character of the wood as much as possible... incluing seeing the character of the wood in the top.

Definitely depends on the guitar. I generally perfer the matching headstocks, but on the 'burst' colors, the natural headstock looks nice.
