Im looking at a 2007 ERNIE BALL MUSIC MAN Limited Axis in Blue Dawn (I think thats the color) to buy. Could anyone tell me if the body has a maple (painted) top or is it all basswood? Any other info on these would be great..thanks!

Hi there-

It has the same specs as the regular Axis. Basswood body, maple top. And, of course, the Blue Dawn paint scheme.

Thanks! Not a big fan of the 2007 on the 12th fret but the price might be right for my first EBMM. It played real nice.

I used to have an older one without the 2007 on it. I want to say it was a limited edition early 2000's model. They do exist without the year stamped into it. Not sure how many though.

Blue Dawn was a regular production colour for some time. It was discontinued, but brought back as a LE package due to many requests.

Picked it up last night for $950. I really like how it plays and sounds. The volume pots and input jack are scratchy so I will need to get that fixed. Barely played for a 5yr old guitar.

Nice score. Grab a can of De-Oxit and give those pots a wee spray. They'll be like new.

Thanks! I know this isnt a guitar repair thread but just curious: spray right into the input jack on the guitar? As for the volume pots, open the cavity and spray? I already have a can of contact cleaner spray (my old 5150 combo needs a sprayin' in the fx loop jacks every once and a while).

For the pots, spray a small amount inside the pot casing (there's a spot on the underside of the pot where you can spray into it) and then repeatedly turn the pot back and forth, back and forth. Do this for a while, it'll allow the contact cleaner to do its work. Note that not all contact cleaners are the same, check and see that it's ok to use on your pots.

On the jack- if it's making noise, it might not be making solid contact. I'd probably loosen the plate it's screwed in to, remove the jack and make sure it's making good contact with the plug. If not you can slightly pry the metal arm forward, where it meets the plug. You could try rubbing some contact cleaner on there with a cloth, to remove any debris or rust, though.

Don't forget, you can always contact the customer support folks at MM for help. Those guys are pros and can help you sort out any other issues, if there are any.

Didnt have time to dig into the guitar last night but my brother and I did try to tighten the trem bar (the base seems loose and wiggles around). Is the nut deep in the cavity the place where you tighten that? We couldnt get anything in there to tighten it either because its an oddball size or the cavity wall is too close and it wont let the socket onto the nut (you might notice Im not the best at describing this stuff). Thanks for any help!
