I own a 2009 JP6. I called MM on this and didn't get an answer I understood, exactly. It would appear I have the Custom, but I'm not sure what that means. I've been on the fence as to if I would want to purchase the newer LiquiFire/Crunchlab pair. From what I've searched and researched I like the idea of putting a Fred for the harmonic content folks rave about but don't really know how different this pickup would be from the original.

What pickup, based on DiMarzio's pickup site descriptions, would be the best description of the neck pickup on my guitar.

Anyone have both, all three, that could compare?

thanks,
Steve

You PU is closest to the Air Norton. Soundwise, the Liquifire tends to go into this direction as well, maybe being a bit smoother and more middy.

I don't know a thing about the Fred in JP, though.

The liquifire is clearer and has less 'mud' than the air norton custom. It's especially noticable when playing at the lower frets and chording even under higher gain.

+1

I would call it "chimey-er" or something of the sort. Better string definition than the custom neck pup.

i've played both the Air Norton and Liquid Fire. I went with the LP, it's a way better pup tonewise to my ears, the mids are much more defined .
