I recently acquired a 1996 20th Anniversary Stingray, that came with no pick guard. There are no holes drilled for a pickguard, but photos of other 20ths I have seen all have a reddish guard. Does anyone know whether these basses came with pickguards? were they any option? I called CS today, but could not shed much information, but thought maybe the guards might have been glued on. Anyone know anything about this?

The 20th Anniversary StingRay had the pickguard glued on. In the second pic you can see the bevelled edge of the pickguard.

I've never heard or seen anything aside from rumours about the missing pickguards.

Came with glued on tort guards that some have said can be reMoved with a towel and iron (I will personally pass on trying that).

Hmmmmm....
Not sure if I like it or not. That pup looks mighty lonely out in that sea of wood.

Agree with you there, the pup does look lonely but the finish is stunning so showing it off is good.
But the tort guard looks the business as well, the fact that is glued on makes it look all the better (no distracting screws)
I have personally have replaced the silver screws in the PG's on both my Ray's for Black screws for that reason, i think it makes it look a bit tidier.

I think that looks stunning, I to tend like a cleanliness of line, like Brian Bollands art for example, I often take pick guards off my basses and don't like front body jack sockets, it, to me, halts the flow. A 20th has always been on my list, a pg less one, even more so ;)

I agree. I am just going to leave it and keep it the way it is. I had a South American asking me to sell it, but I am just going to keep it. I hope my grandchildren (if I ever get any) will enjoy it!
