Hi, Question...
If you had the chance to purchase either a EBMM 20th anniversary stingray 5-string HH or a EBMM 25th anniversary HSS? Which of these btwo basses would you prefer and why?

thx

hello and welcome to the forum :)

id buy the 25th.. but thats only because i already own some 20th :)

do you own any sr5 basses from before?
if so id buy the 25th to get something different than what you already got.

if you dont have any eb basses the choice is tougher. the 20th will do the classic stingray sound with some added bonuses :)
the 25th will give you the flexibility of 3 pickups and active/passive switch, but it will not do that classic stingray sound 100%

no matter which one you choose though you will have an excellent bass! :)

Thanks MrM,
I can say that I don't own a EBMM at this moment and that I would like to have the Stingraysound or something very close to that in the bass.
Anyone else?

thx,
Dirk

In that case I'd go for the StingRay 20th first. It's about the best StingRay 5 money can buy and it has pickups with alnico pole pieces which get you even closer to the classic 'Ray sound.

However, if you need to get a lot of different sounds out of one instrument, then I'd consider the 25th HSS. It's probably as versatile as a bass can be (except for the GameChanger which is not available as 5er yet).

I've owned BOTH, and I wish I still had my 20th HH. That bass really sang, and had that distictive Ray growl. The 25th Hss is no slouch either, but for that signature Ray sound the 20th does it for me.

I think this two basses are totally different!

You must really carefully decide what exactly do You want/need!

They are indeed different basses.... I"'m still doubting between the "stingray"sound of the 20th and the versatility and flexability in sounds of the 25th anniversary.
They are both top of the line basses... Problem is that I can't test these basses, so I have to decide which one I'll get without trying them.
I see that the body of the 25th is smaller and has no upperhorn, is it well in balance? neckdive?

I own reflex 5 HH, but it's almost the same bass as 25th without fancy transparent colored maple top, dots and some details, ...so balance on the strap is fantastic, ...no neck dive at all!
Just had a first gig last weekend, ...perfect, awesome bass!

Never tried 20th, but I'm sure it's great bass too!

You may also want to consider a 25th/Reflex HH. It has the rear H in the classic Stingray position and a lot of the same versatility of the HSS.

If you like an old school, smooth, deep, rich tone the front S's on the HSS are all that and a bag of snack food.

Thanks guy's, You've all been very helpfull!
I have decided to go for the 25th HSS.
The guy that's trading this bass with me has givin' me the opportunity to test the bass for a few days and If I shouldn't like the bass I can send it back to him and change it for the Stingray 20th anni! A nice gesture, don't you think?
I know it's a nice guy! I've dealth with him before....

I'm the one guilty of spreading some EBMM love across Europe. :) Having owned and played both the 20th SR5HH and the 25th 5HSS for some time now, I could simply not decide which one to part with - they are indeed both lovely instruments. So I left it to nonkel26 to make the decision. :D

The 25th is on its way now, it's already missed here in Sweden but life goes on - I hope you will like it as much as I have Dirk!
