20th Silhouette and other BFR guitar construction question

Hi,

I love my 20th anniversary silhouette. It's a fabulous guitar. I'm curious about the stripe between the maple top and the body. It's three layers of black and white. What is it? Is it fiber? Wood? Plastic? It's cool. It's also on the BFR Albert Lee (and possibly other models too). Anyone know what this is?
