I have an albert lee hss, I put in a chopper in the neck, fast track 1 in middle, and a transition in the bridge. What would I gain/lose from changing the tone or volume pots from a 250k to a 500k? The new pickups defiantly made for more output, but it still feels a bit sluggish. I have a luke3 with the same pickup(transition) but the output in the al still seems a bit restrained compared to the luke3. I understand they are built differently, but would a 500k pot make for more output/ brighter sound? Anyone prefer one over the other? I've read with single coils to try 250k, but the chopper and fast track are humbuckers in a single coil slot. Any advice?

I would try the 500 k pot it will be a little brighter and to me it seems to open up the pickup more. When I had the 250 pots in my morse it did seem a little darker and not as bright and open. Put the 500 k pot in and give it a shot.

I was thinking you were a good source of advice for this one Gio.

Is there any particular brand that is the best? I don't mind paying more for a better option. And would I still be able to get the same sound(of a 250k pot) by rolling a 500k pot back a bit? I really like the sound I'm gettin with the 250k, but if it were a smidge brighter and more powerful, I'd dig.

I am not really sure of what brands are better or worse I just go and buy the ones they sell at the local guitar repair shop.

You can't go wrong with CTS or alphas (short shaft)... be sure to get logarithmic and not linear ones for volume control.

Swapping to 500k pots was the best decision on my balls. The humbuckers just weren't slicing it with 250K pots. I like to be bright and piercing to open up room for the bassist.
