Just wondering here...

Considering all JP flavors, the JPX would be my favorite, because it has the 15" fretboard radius with gigantic jumbo frets, and it's chambered. However, the 5-way switch placement doesn't fit my playing, it's right on my hand's path. I love the 3-way switch found on all other JP models, though.

How hard would it be to mod a JPX to fit a 3-way toggle switch on it? Possible, at least?

You would have to route the guitar to fit the 3 way switch as I don't think it'll fit through the slit for the 5 way. Conversely, you could just wire the 3 way selector where the piezo switch is, and then wire the 5 way to activate the Piezo/Piezo+Magnetic/Magnietics.

Could also move the volume and tone back one and use the slot for where the volume is as a place for the 3 way.

I think it'd be a bit more trouble than it's worth doing all that though.

I have gone back forth on doing this with mine as well... more times than I want to count. I like the coil tap sounds I get from positions two an four ... but could add a push pull to get that effect. For the standard three way you'd definitely have to drill.... and the switch souldn't entirely cover the slot... but.... my opinion is that it might be worth it... I personally haven't done it yet as I love those coil sounds.... but push/pull... hmmm......

Thanks everyone for all suggestions, some great input here.

Now, how hard would it be to do this? Is it a simple process?

That wouldn't be a hard mod at all, and is a VERY clever idea! I wish I thought of doing that when I had my JPX as my only gripe was the 5 way switch placement.

You'd need to reroute the wiring coming from the 3 way to the pickups (best to leave the wire going through the body in place), and then the wiring from the vol pots to the blade switch, IIRC how the JPX is wired. It would work even better if you swapped the 5 way out for a 3 way blade, but thats just for me. That's how I would do it anyway... minimal amount of changes to achieve the end result.
