Does anyone know if this round of hand stained Axis Anniversary guitars will have some kind of UV protection to keep them from fading?

1. Modern dyes are more resistant to fading.

2. Yes, 2k car paint ebmm uses now have UV protective components.

So should be significantly better than those late 90th models.

However, everything fades eventually, just at much slower rates.

Thank you, but the 2012 Tribute Axis faded. My question is if EBMM has done anything to fix the issue this time around. If these are the same colors as the original Axis, which the tributes were as well, then its fair to ask if EBMM has changed the dye or process for this run of guitars.

I worked with one of the major chemical company in the country and I know they constantly do RnD to fight fading in dyes, films, and paints. However, we don’t know what of those improved products are used by ebmm. Probably you can reach out to the CS and ask voice your concern (if you have not done it yet). They may not tell you exact product names, but may give you done answers.

For example, this fading was a big big issue with PRS, I think they improved some of it…

From what I’ve heard from folks at shows and in the community, EBMM hasn’t radically changed the dye formula or done anything drastically different for UV protection on this Anniversary run. Most of these guitars still use the classic hand‑stained and nitro/hand‑rub finish that will fade over time if exposed to sunlight.

The original EBMM EVH did not have nitro, nor did any Axis except the limited purple nitro run. All EBMMs (except the few limited nitro runs) have a polyester (poly) clearcoat. The EBMM EVH was hand rubbed dye, then clear coated with poly clear. I do agree that it seems EBMM are still not adding any UV protection is to the clear on this 30th Anniversary run.

Honestly, tho, I am not sure UV is totally to blame here. Some of my Axis Tributes have faded and they have been in their cases with zero light exposure since I got them brand new in 2012.
