the bongo and the sr5 is the same scale length. I am very happy with the b string on all of our 5ers. The question about not willing to change gauges for 2" shorter scale length is interesting.

The MM 5's all have great B string response and feel. Some other makers also have great sounding 34" scale basses...Pedulla and Ken Smith come to mind.

I have owned some 35" scale basses that had B string response that was not even close to being as good as an SR5. Going to a longer scale is not a sure cure for a wimpy B. There are too many other factors that influence the response of a bass.

IMO the Music Man 5's have some of the best necks out there. The string spacing is tighter than some but it just works wonderfully. My only niggle (very minor) is I have to watch my technique carefully or I may pull the G string off the edge of the fingerboard on an SR5. The neck is only as wide as it needs to be so there is no room sloppy technique.

Sometimes I almost feel a bit guilty about not paying more for EBMM basses; when you think how much it costs to find an all round 'comparable' package.

Not only do they feel so fine, but they sing so pretty; not to mention that they really stomp, if that's what yer into.

Now to see if someone wants to sell me a DD B5 HSP ... hmmmm?
