My 6166 volume pedal, which I bought used through ebay, has been giving me problems. The volume spikes immediately to its full level with the slightest tap up from the heel-down position.
To remedy this, I found that there is a switch on the inside of the pedal that allegedly changes the settings from an immediate change to a more even swell, which I prefer. I changed the switch position, which helped a little bit, but the pedal did not swell like a friend's 6166.
I decided to try to clean the pot. I got Deoxit from Radio Shack and sprayed a bit into the hole of the pot. I didn't really know what I was doing here, and I think that might show. After doing this and rocking the pedal back and forth to distribute the contact cleaner throughout the pot, the pedal appears to function either not at all, or inconsistently. I find that it occasionally affects the volume, but at other times the volume stays at the full level.
The string appears in fine condition, though it is wrapped around the pot many times (I watched a repair video that advised only three times, this is much more) and at times it overlaps.
What is my best bet here? Should I just order a new pot?
Thanks in advance.
