Okay...so I just pulled the trigger on a 79/80 pre EB Sabre, classic burst body with a FL neck. This is my third Sabre, but first fretless of any type. The seller is Uncle Ike's in Iowa, and they seem to be legit. The price was fair IMHO ($1320)--not a super deal; not a ripoff. I'm having the usual immediate scrotal-tightening buyer's remorse pang (which I have whenever I make a purchase on an unknown over 20 bucks). One thing is the fretboard is laquered (unlined)...and I'm not sure if that was a factory option or done as a refi. (The catalog for 1980 Sabres states the FL FBs are ebony, but doesn't specify finish) The one 79 Sabre FL in the pic archives has the board unfinished (its a beauty, too). Oh, and the rest of the bass looks pristine, and all electronics/hardware supposedly work perfectly. Anyway...what do you all think? Should I be excited happy, or nervous worried until the Fed Ex man comes? Opinion on laquered/epoxyed FL boards vs natural? Thanks for letting me vent...Thanks for any response.
