thats it exactly tbone. the beauty, and the terror, of my dad passing, was the realization that i am now THAT guy, to my kids. and he lives on in almost every ounce of love, or word of wisdom i could ever hope to offer them. ok, this is the part of the thread where someone sings an elton john song about a tiger.

Was my Dad's Birthday. If he was still with us he would be 80....another few days marks the 6th anniversary of his passing.

I think of him all the time....I thank him for the opportunity he gave me that Im able to pass on to my kids....

If your Dad is still around give him a call.....

My Dad is 81 and still Plays 3 nights a week and it's still cool to watch him. I also remember my time at the Ernie Ball Factory Talking with the Great Ernie Ball, Loved it but it was just too short. Love you Ernie & and I thank You for what you've Done to the Electric Bass and Instruments.

I'm consider myself very fortunate that my dad's still very much with us. DOB: Feb 9, 1929, so he's 81 and is actually driving back to London from his sister's in Scotland with my mum as I type this!

I moved to the US from the UK in 1987 but, thanks in large part to the internet, get to converse with him (and mum) most days. I also spend a week playing golf with him and his cronies in Scotland each year, which is something I cherish very, very much.

God bless all the dad's out there and the memories of those no long with us.

My Father Sam passed last November at 97 years old.
Among other things, he was a War Hero who received a lot of decorations in WWII, including 4 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with many Battle Stars.

More so, he was a Hero in his unconditional love and support of his Family; my Mother, Sister, and myself. These days sometimes, not so easily taken for granted.

He never particularly understood or condoned my pursuit of the arts; he would have preferred me to settle into a more stable career, but he knew, and he supported inside.

The last 2 years I spent taking care of him best I could, the last month was the hardest. I think the most difficult aspect for him was losing his independence.
He did EVERYTHING himself until at age 95, he physically no longer could.

There have been signs to me that his Spirit remains- My feelings and my belief.

Sterling, of course my condolences and I echo your sentiment to those who still can give their Dad a hug.

I'd give up All of my incredible Bass Gear for (1) more hour to talk with my Dad, I really would.
BUT if I did, I know what he'd say:
"Why did you do that?! I'm allright! Don't worry about ME! Move on, and get to the next chapter!"

God Bless.

OMG that is such a Dad Saying, Thanks for bringing back some cool Memories.

Bp, thanks for posting during our fathers birthday months. My dad was born 8-10-21 and passed in 1993. He was a man of few words but many actions! He stood tall in the saddle and I miss him dearly!

Ha! Thanks for that.

My Sis is a world-Class Horsewoman, she named her newest Horse after Dad, SAM-

And

The "Show-Name" for said Horse, an Austalian Warmblood, is "Don't Tell ME!"

Which is what Dad would say regarding...well, everything!

RIP Ernie Ball; RIP Sam, and RIP Dad's everywhere who have left us, but not before giving us the greatest gift in the Universe, Life.

Poiniant stuff this. My dad passed in 1996 of Parkinsons. What a bitch that disease is, robbed a brilliant man of his mind and faculties. Still miss him and the things he tried to teach me, like "get yourself trained so you can provide for your family", "measure twice and cut once", "yeah, you could pay someone else to do that for you, or you could do it yourself and save money", and he called my mom "Dear", which I find I am doing all the time to my wife these days. We become our fathers, hopefully that's a good thing to all on this thread.

Apart from being my dad he is responsible for my Passion to wards music, when i was no age at all i was introduced to music, i didn't know many nursery rhymes but knew most of the words to to my dads record collection, Dylan, Thorogood, Gallagher, etc....
Then soon as i could stand up an walk about a bit it wasn't a bike that i got for Christmas but a guitar and Ive never looked back to this day !

I don't know, Pops. He has a record coming out and opened for Aerosmith recently.

Of course, my o-riginal TDB Band tee shirt will surely bring me enough on ebay to buy that Airstream I have been lusting after. Or maybe some aluminum foil...it's a start.
