Does anyone have a spare set of the older style 90’s EVH/Axis gotoh tremolo posts that screw directly into the wood instead of threading into the metal insert like the newer ones do? I’ve emailed customer service and they no longer have any in stock, and I’ve been unable to find any from a Google search

You might try checking with a Gotoh dealer to see if there's anything they can do. Gotoh doesn't do direct business in the US, assuming that's where you are, so everything has to go through their dealers or distributors.

Also, have you measured the dimensions on the bridge plate to see if they're the same as the current model? Another option might be to have a good luthier just replace the old ones with the newer style posts.

Ya I recently bought a pair of the new posts with the bushings. I asked them if they had any of the wood screw style posts and they said no. I don’t think it’s worth modifying the guitar to put bushings in it. It’s too valuable to be modified.

You could try:
- Put a towel/padding around the existing posts to keep them from becoming marred.
- Use a Vice Grip - tighten it down really well.
- Turn/lower the existing posts to their original height.
- Your done.

If you're able to turn them to remove them, you should be able to turn them a time or two in order to lower them. The key would be to not muck up the heads so they still look okay. You'd be left with the stripped allen heads, but that would only be noticeable to you.

I'd try this if the new Gotoh posts are too difficult to find.

fwiw

Good luck!
