Hi Guys,

Been a very very long time since posting on here. Been gigging with my Stingray a lot recently, noticed a little bit of buzz coming from the treble pot so thought I'd look inside the cavity. It was when doing this that I noticed the date stamp says 10.10.89 whereas when I've had it dated from EB they have said January 92.

I understand this was a transition period from Music Man/Ernie Ball. Could anybody shed any light on this bass??

Thanks in advance!

I thought so too Chuck. Few people over the years have commented that this bass doesn't really fit in a specific year for parts. So I'm guessing it had an old 2 band inserted in 92?

1989 still had a 4 bolt neck, even up to 1990.

As does mine, 4 bolt with small music man logo embossed. was there a change after 1990?

Edit: Just read that in the 2nd half of 91 they changed to a 6 bolt. Interesting as this is an early 92 and still a 4 bolt...

Brad...Jan 1992 is not a birth date nor necessarily when your instrument was made. It's the date the instrument is about ready to leave the factory. It's highly likey that the parts on your Bass were actually made in 1991 or perhaps a little earlier. Also, even though new designs are introduced, I imagine that perfectly good existing parts would still be used up.

I'm not the guy that takes the neck off of a bass just to see when the body has been stamped... So I don't know if my '90 EB Ray was made in 1990. But once I have been too curious because the ser# of my '78 fits to a row of 77 serials listed on Gav.'s website. Ok - body and neck were stamped in 1978 but half a year between the dates.
