How easy is it to change an S/S/S pup into an H/S/S on a silo. I have seen a nice silo 2nd hand, but it is sss and I need an hss. I remember hearing that it is realy easy with a change of scratch plate.

Cheers,

Jonny

Silhouettes were originally designed so that you could swap pickguards with different pickup sets/configs quick and easy - I'm sure it would be no problem to throw in an H/S/S guard on that guitar... in fact, if you get an entire guard & all the electronics as well as one of the little connectors EBMM uses, you can probably set it up so you can swap them...

dont think so.the HH,SSS and HSS went out a long time ago I think(prolly mid 90s with the Silo Special coming out).I've seen a couple on the bay lately.A HSH guard with the DiMarzios fully wired with the switch and pots/knobs went for a measly 52 quid just a few weeks ago:eek: :(

if they can still be gotten I'd love an HSS myself

What about replacing the bridge p/up with s/c size humbucker like a Seymour Duncan Lil'59/JB Jr/Hot Rails ?

I did it a few times in my F****r days, worked a treat !

I have removed the pickguard of my silo special SSS to check the routing and here are the conclusions

- Body is routed for a HSS configuration (good point :) ) though mine a SSS
- The connector allows you to remove the pickguard from the body without any soldering

I think if you can order to EBMM the whole kit like EMG (DG20, SL20) is providing you are on the safe side :D put you need to check this point with customer service. I reckon the new equiped pickguard may cost you around 250 $ which is not cheap at all...

hope this helps...

I went the other way a while back- had an HSS silo spec I re-wired with a new SSS guard from Chandler and new p'pus (Bill Lawrence). The connector was a molex quick-disconnect. Very cool.

Eventually sold off the guitar and Raz bought the pickguard assemly which he then put on a Sub!

Beej, any chance of providing the part number?

Regrettably, no. I couldn't find anything in a catalogue that fit so I went to various surplus stores to find something- no dice. In the end, I used two individual round female quick-disconnects (one for each pin on the molex connector) which worked just fine.

Thanks for that. Did EB at anytime use something similar?

They used a one-piece Molex connector with two or three lugs on it. I just couldn't find the same one to use so had to be creative. (It's a good system, but truth be told I don't mind soldering at all. It no less convenient than having to take off the strings, unscrew the pickguard, etc.)
