I took the new patch that Dough Bryan at instituteofnoise posted (thanks by the way!) and modded it for my guitar...

anywho, the first two songs are just the normal patch..then pleasure dome is using the middle position of my pup selector..then the last bit is the same patch, back with the bridge pup and just some phaser added on top..

I know it still sounds like crap, but the bastages at GC are holding my guitar friggin' hostage so I didn't waste a trip down there..Il'l get the y connector another time!

It sounded better and better as you proceeded through the cuts ,
Spunded good in the last parts
The playing was good ,
it seemed like the recording volume was pegged on overload, distorting the recording.
Good choice in music

Hey,

I havent gotten around to learning Pleasure Dome yet.

I have a '89 Steinberger GL2Ta {SOON GOING UP ON EBAY SADLY to pay taxes} :( and I read that Eddie used that on Pleasure Dome. I know he used GL2Ta on Summer Nights, and Get up. {Good 'ol TransTrem}

Figured I would mention that, in case You were pulling your hair out trying to get the tone and characteristics of the riff etc. just right.

I hate taxes!!!! bastards making me sell my beautifull GL!!

Grrrrrr!

Re: .

dude, that SUX!!!!!! any way you can try to avoid it? I've never played a steinberger but have always been intrigued by them..

I knew he played one on for summer nights and get up but didnt' know he played one on pleasure dome....that's interesting to know..

I was just trying to get a knock off tone..something that sounded close enough where people would know what the hell song I was playing..lol...it's mostly in the chorus fx part of the tone that makes teh difference actually =D

GL2Ta

Yeah it does suck!!

oH, AND ABOUT THE SONG,
I have read it in a million places that he uses his GL2Ta on Pleasure dome. So I guess it's true. I not sure if I have any video tapes of ed playing that song live to confirm it though.

Don't take that last post the wrong way though man, I wasn't nit picking your clip. lol I just thought You would be into knowing that little factoid about what ed was doing.

Playing Summer Nights and Get Up without a GL2Ta sux!!!! lol
I tried the old capo trick for summer nights, and hated it. Not the same.

Gotta run L8r! :D

In the studio it was played on a transtrem Steinberger (i think it was the GLT2a). Live, they used to do an instrumental version of Pleasure Dome between the 91 - 93 tours where Ed was playing his honey EVH EBMM, but they dropped the intro, pretty much playing a verse and chorus inbetween the bass and drum solo. As far as I know they never played the guitar solo live. Check out the Live Right Here Right Now DVD/VHS for it!

And for my two quid, he sounded really drunk when he played the solo on the album!!! Moreso than he used to be!!!

For Summer Nights, I used to use a Digitech RP2000 with the whammy pedal set to a third higher than normal, that way you can still play the chords at the correct finger positions, then push the pedal down for the rest of the song for the standard tuning. The capo is too hard to get on or off quickly while you're playing that song!

I used to be in a Van Halen tribute band...

And for extra weirdness, my brother posts on the Genesis forum with the exact same username as you!

I don't see why all those people would be lying then =D

I know you weren't nit picking..didn't take it in a negativelight at all! I've never seen him play it live so I find it interesting that he went back to the ole steinberger!

do they still make those things??

I would imagine playing get up would suck without that particular guitar cause of the tremolo! you can bend up and down and still have every string in pitch right??

Re: Re: GL2Ta

I TOTALLY forgot about that video..It hink I have an old crust VHS somewhere at my mom's house!

but now that you mention it, they did do a little pleasure dome interlude between the drum and bass solos...

but not for too too long

good memory, man =D

SHowing a bit of EVH ignorance here, which I know is shameful(hey..gimme a break...i'm only 18)...but what song is that riff you play after the huge divebomb from...

Happens around 1:15. Good lord that's a cool riff.

I really should start listening to some van halen.

1:15-1:42 -- The Dream Is Over
1:42-2:53 -- Pleasuredome
2:53-end -- Eruption (3 chords), open jamming/going nuts (show off :p)

Get in good with the mod...start knowing more EVH. :p

the mod is correct, mini..it's the opening line to the dream is over offa the for unlawful carnal knowlege album..one of my favorite vh tunes =)

it's really kinda easy to pull that little lick off...it's an old EVH trick..just a slide up the neck and pull off (hard to explain..easy to do..lol), on the first, second and third strings..
