Hello guys! First post here. I have setup my JP7 almost perfectly, but I have a few questions about it.
1. Pickup height. When pressed at the last fret, the high E string is at about 2,5mm away from both of the pickups, and the low E string is at about 3mm from the pups. However, the low B is at 2.5mm from the neck pup and around 2.3mm from the bridge pup, isn't that too high? The pickups won't go any lower. I haven't touched the individual bridge saddles since the guitar arrived from the factory, should I raise the low B a bit?
2. I have adjusted my action using the bridge height screws, I was told to do that at my local music store, which I ordered the guitar from. My bridge sides are now slightly lower than the body, is that ok or could it have any negative effects? Also, I made the bridge parallel to the body not only horizontally, but also vertically, could that be why the low B is so low? Should the bridge be higher on the bass side?
Sorry if my perfectionism annoys you, but I can't help it, I want to make sure I'm getting the best out of my JP7. :)

Setting up action is all preference and the best position for your playing and also the playability of the guitar.
Your pup height on a jp7 is set. the pups are mounted directly to the body so they are the way they are. I have 2 myself and no adjustments needed with pups. I wouldn't stress about that on a jp. But action is just pref. just make sure it's intonated and jam.

Generally speaking, you don't need to touch the saddles- they're set very low from the factory. Usually when there's a change in the action, it's the neck that needs adjusting. Once you have it straight, then you can tweak the saddles if need be.

Yes, but not "straight" straight. For most people a little neck relief helps avoid string buzz.

Check the DiMarzio website for pickup height advice (though of the top of my head, 2.5 mm is fine). If it sounds good to your ears, then it is fine.

Thanks for your replies, guys! Yeah, I also think that 2.5mm is fine but I'm worried about the low B, I think it could sound better. Beej - what do you mean when you say factory setup saddles are very low? Mine are close to the cover of the bridge.

Sorry, I meant the string height is set low from the factory so the guitar is very playable.

What changes along the way is usually the neck. So when you dial that back in everything should be great. It's just that sometimes people jump to changing the saddle heights without adjusting the truss rod, creating more work than is needed.
