1) How much would it cost to replace a neck for a JP-6?
I just need a base price and a few estimates for added costs:
-base price (no inlays, no matching headstock)
-with custom inlays
-with matching headstock (redburst or whatever)
-with matching headstock for mystic dream

2) Can a JP-6 be refinished by an authorized dealer or MM itself? If so, how much would this cost?

3) I know this has been asked before, but... regarding BFR's
...IS IT or IS IT NOT a limited run?
My decision on whether to buy one this summer or a normal JP-6 and then a BFR two summers from now depends ENTIRELY on whether it'll still be available.

Thanks.

1) replacement neck:

if you want an authentic EBMM neck you have to send in your old one and they'll send you a brand new one with the EXACT spec and will charge you for it unless its a warranty issue.

You cannot send in neck that has dot inlays and get one back with the JP Sheild inlays. You also cannot keep the old one.

2) refinish

EBMM will not refinish it. there's plenty of people that will and their prices vary

3) i dunno - but i dont THINK theyre not limited - but like i said, im not sure

But how MUCH will they charge? I assume the more features are ORIGINALLY on the neck, the more they'll charge. If it's too high an upkeep, I won't bother with inlays, for example.

contacting customer service is the only way to get the official answer since they're gonna have questions to ask you etc.

you can reach em monday at: 1-800-543-2255 or send an email to [email protected] and they'll get back to you as soon as they can.

As far as inlays etc go - you don't have an option to "upgrade" or "downgrade" the inlays... or anything else like matching headstock vs. non-matching. You can only get exactly what your current guitar originally left the factory with. so if you have sheilds now you cannot save money by getting a new neck with dot inlays.

good luck buddy

Yup, I got that about the no up/downgrade option. What I'm saying is... whether or not I get inlays depends on what the difference will be when it comes to replacing the neck. I like to keep my fretboards fresh :)

Wait...do you mean you don't actually have the guitar in question and you're trying to decide whether to get inlays based on replacement cost? Not that there's anything wrong with that. :p

There are cheaper ways to keep your fretboard fresh--many of which have been repeatedly discussed here and are detailed in the FAQ at ernieball.com.

Ehhh, its a purely theoretical question. Not just the fretboard but the entire neck, I'd like it to be minty fresh, and replace it every few years.

You must be hard on your guitars! My JP is a little over a year old and the neck on it looks/plays like the day I bought it. Actually a little better from being broken in...

You can sand the back of the neck. Do an oil and wax as detailed in the FAQ. You can lemon oil your fretboard. Get a fret dressing. Boom. All cheaper than a new neck.

Well that's a new one on me- never heard that one before.

In my experience of playing guitars for over 30 years a neck plays / feels better after it has been "broken in". A bit of blood sweat and tears, works great on the mojo.

Don't "fret" over the neck - it'll outlive you probably.

As an aside - I am sorry to say that I own a (black!) Eko acoustic that has NEVER had the neck cleaned and I've had it for 32 years  :p
