happened at the music store today.

I stopped in to get some strings. (They were out of Slinky 9s, which seems to be a recurring problem there.) It's a former EBMM dealer, and the place where I played my first Axis. Now, they seem to have pretty much become an exclusive F****r dealer. Of the 25 or so guitars they had on the wall the only non-F****rs they had were an LTD V and a Peavey, and the Peavey was even a tele knockoff.

So, I've stated before that I love guitars (F****rs usually right behind EBMMs). I like looking at them, like holding them, and if there's one near me, no matter how good or how bad, I've usually got to pick it up and at least pluck out a few notes.

I took a look at that wall of guitars, turned around walked out and came home to order some strings online. There wasn't a guitar on the wall that I had any desire to pick up and play.

Maybe I was a little ticked because this is three times in a row over the last few months that they've been sold out of my strings or maybe it was because I knew none of those guitars would give me the same satisfaction that my Axis does. Either way, it was a really strange feeling.

I have a question.

Why do people censor the name of other companies like Fender, Gibson, Ibanez or Peavey?

Why not just call them what they are? As far as I know it's not against the rules to like other companies or own guitars from them. I own 3 Ibanez RGs and a Jem and they are great guitars. I also own a few Fenders(one is out of commission but will be rebuilt this summer), and have owned some great Jacksons and would actually like to get some Jacksons in the future.

All I'm saying, there's no reason for that.. so why?

Nice one.

I went to a music store today to help a colleague buy an acoustic guitar - she wants to start learning at the age of 48 - no problems there I hear you say. Bought a Chinese Acoustic under the name of Hudson - a real nice guitar (honest!).

Well I had a browse about and yup they had quite a few basses ( I still can't tell the difference between a Stirling and a Stingray) but no EB guitars.
Plenty of EB strings.

So that was my little "musical (long) lunch (3) hour(s) today !!

I know what you mean - and I used to do it - people feel polite here ha!

Sterling Ball has great admiration for the likes of F~**3r (sorry only joking!) Fender, Gibson, PRS etc and won't have people knocking them on here.

I just did it as a joke, to be honest, because I've seen it done so often here. I'll stop it right away, sir. :D

Though I'm now an EBMM addict, I happen to quite like Fenders, and they were my favorite guitars prior to playing an EBMM. (In fact, there's still one particular current Fender model and one discontinued model on my wish list. *shhh* Don't tell anyone.) Today was the first time I've felt that lack of desire to try one out, though.

I feel ya, man!

I like some Fenders a lot.. especially strats so I can beat them up! :)

But, in terms of feel.. I have a difficult time finding something I really like enough to purchase because the EBMMs are just so darn awesome.

I'm very accustomed to not finding what I want when I walk into a music store. I'm very excited to find what I want. Usually, I'm very surprised when that happens. Around here, there aren't many stores that regularly carry EBMM guitars. So, I'm always surprised to find one or even more than one.

RPS Slinkys? Forget it. I only know of one store that has them. So, I keep going back there.

It's par for the course for me to walk in to a music store and not find anything that would strongly interest me. I usually have to order what I want from an internet dealer or a dealer with an internet presence.

That's really where I am right now, and it's strange. I pulled out my Ibanez last week. Admittedly, it's a cheap EX model, but I used to really like it and it feels unplayable now. My Robin, which has a baseball bat neck and has always been a little uncomfortable for me, now feels like trying to wrap my hands around a railroad tie. I'm just having a little trouble adapting. ;)

I'm 2-plus hours from the nearest EBMM dealer since this store quit carrying them. Probably a good thing since I might end up with a divorce if it were closer. But I'm used to seeing things that at least interest me in picking up and playing. It's kind of a new world for me.

I guess its the result of years of having crappy pawn shop guitars and guitars that didn't really fit me, so I was always on a quest for "the one," hoping that next one I picked up, I'd feel the lightning bolt strike. Now that it's struck and I've got that one that fits me perfectly, I don't know what to do in a music store anymore. :D

guys it is ok to be critical but constructively so......repeated slamming is not good . It really is ok to say you dont like one offering or antoher. just try to come up with real reasons...I dont like Fender Sucks1 and crap like that.

On the other hand I would prefer if you didnt hijack these threads to discuss future wishes and dreams of other makers here.

Smacking taken. My apologies, BP. Got caught up in the conversation and forgot where I was.
