So, I had to go get my 20th Ann. Silo repaired. I had to have my output jack replaced. Thanks, Dan, for the jack.
I went to the Southfield, MI, store. As soon as I opened up the case at the door to show them what was inside, people started oo-ing and ah-ing. Many were asking me what kind of guitar it was. No one at that store had seen one of these beauties. My buddy can probably tell you more about what they were saying, because I was off getting the new jack put in and then playing my guitar through a couple of amps. Apparently, they were very impressed by the beauty of the guitar. People remarked about the finish and how sweet it looked. I'm told that while I was off playing the guitar the guys in the store were talking about how nice the guitar was.
I let one of the sales guys try it out. As soon as he plugged it in, but before we turned it up, he said, "It's gonna be good, I can tell already." He was very impressed with the sound, the feel, the playability. We told him about the construction of the guitar, i.e., the woods, the tone block, etc. He said, "It's almost too easy to play."
He really seemed to like it a lot.
Other EBMM related stuff. They had a black Luke and a fully loaded Pearl Redburst JP6. These were the first two Balls that I've seen there in about two or three years aside from the basses. I had to reacquaint myself with the clean sound I love so much out of the Luke in positions 4 and 5. Awesome stuff. I was in what for me is pretty close to clean-single-coil heaven. Played it through a Lonestar and a Twin. Fantastic. I'm going to have to have one of those. Then, I thought, "Hmm...BFR?" Of course, I had to play the D-Sonic equipped JP. I think the battery may have been dead. We got no love out of the piezo. Oops. It was a nice JP, though. It was a little thinner sounding than my base-configuration JP6, though. It made me want my BFR to come.
Checked out the Small Clone and Small Stone, and I thought they were cool. Dug the EVH Phaser.
Picked up some Wonder Wipes, a big can of instrument polish and a small container of the fretboard conditioner. It was the first time I saw either a big can of WWs or the fretboard conditioner. Picked up a decent guitar cord that hopefully won't fall apart and leave its tip inside my 20th--the reason I had to have my jack replaced. Picked up a nice new strap for my 20th. The guy who helped me over there is a SR player. I told him I really liked the 30th Anniversary SR. He knew nothing about it. So, I had to spread the gospel a little.
Now, I've come home, and I've plugged my 20th into my equipment for the first time in weeks. Boy, I was loving it. I played through a little of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "BloodSugarSexMagik." It sounded huge. Everything was right again in my little guitar world. All-in-all, it was a good day at the GC.
Only an AL, something in Blue Dawn, or a BFR would have made it better. Okay...maybe a 20th SR5 or a 30th SR, but I didn't get to the basses. Thank goodness there were other Balls to distract me.
