No info regarding how to determine a proper bow on the neck but other than that, there are lots of good info. I did not know that this was on the site at all. Still think a good sticky on the forum regarding maintenance and setup would be great and easy to find. Or at least a link to the main site that catches the old eye.

Please, don't take what I said as any shot at you - not at all. People join up and can't be expected to know the history of any given subject; I understand that and don't get wrapped around the axle about it. No need to be gun-shy, at least on my account. (I try to moderate as little as possible, truly.)

If you have questions, this really is the best place to ask. If I came off as grumpy, you can blame me and I'll buy you a beer/martini/cup of coffee at the next Forum Bash.

Thank you. Step 5 to 10 in the first link is really well written I´d say. Step 0 is a good one. "Wash your hands". ;) I myself use both hands when checking the curve of the neck. I hang the bass in it´s strap like when I play it and press the string down at the first fret with a finger on my left hand and press the string at the last fret with a finger on my right hand and then I just use my eyes to check the gab between the string and the fret around the 7th/8th fret. Now I might have to do what he does ahead, using ones elbow on the last fret or a capo at the first fret and tap the string with a finger around 7th/8th fret to check the gap. I´m 43 now and I can still see fairly well so a visual check still works for me but that might not be the case for much longer since I´m getting older and more grumpy for each day that passes.

The only thing that he doesn´t mention in the first link that could be good to know about regarding maintanence is that lemon oil on maple fretboards is either a no no or be very thorough to wipe it all off when you´re done cleaning your board. Don´t leave lemon oil on your maple board. Some say that lemon oil can make maple crack or discolor maple. I´ve never experienced this myself but this is what some people that I myself have lots of respect for say. And it actually say so on Dunlops lemoil can too. Don´t use on maple. Now I read on my Ernie Ball Freatboard cleaning box that it contains orange oil instead of lemon oil. Orange oil is less agressive to wood (and metal/frets) but have the same cleaning abilities so using Ernie Ball´s products will keep you safe at all times. I would guess that the EB team knows this so this is most likely the reason for using orange oil instead of lemon oil. Perhaps.... I don´t know. But it´s the proper thing to do. Thumbs up. But this can be a god thing to know about. Lemon oil + maple = No. Orange oil can be used on all bare woods. NEVER on varnished surfaces thou!!! Oil and varnish is no good.
