So heres the down and dirty of it....

Im looking to buy my 1st guitar since I sold everything about 10 years ago. I wanted a PRS, but I just haven't fallen in "love" with any of the dozens I've played.

Ended up playing a bunch of MM guitars last night after never really given the brand a consideration
Played a few JP models, Axis model, and Silhouette model. Once the Luke 3 hit my hands I didn't want to put it down! Very usable tonal pallette from thick to stat type sounds and a useable active feature. After an hour of playing, a price was negotiated and a deposit placed.

Now my question..... WHAT THE HECK DID I JUST BUY?

After comparing the Luke 3 that I have a deposit on to the specs on MM website, it's a pretty different guitar! My guitar is a sunburst finish alder body, I don't see that as an option. My guitar has the active pot at the tone, not the volume as on the MM website, and fianlly, my guitar has a solid rosewood neck, not maple????

What is this thing? Is this a GC exclusive guitar or something? It was tagged at $1875 and negotiated down to $1550 out the door, but i really don't know what to base this on of its a GC only model?!

Thoughts???

Dan

Edit: I thought I should add, this was a brand new guitar labeled a Music Man LIII

Dan,
That was a limited edition guitar. I almost bought that one. That's a beautiful sunburst finish. The boost was originally on the tone control, my L3 HSS has it on the volume. Don't think it matters. They make the guitar with rosewood and roasted maple necks. They're both excellent. I think they're currently making roasted maple only. EB constantly makes minor changes to their guitars (keeps things fresh and interesting). Others on this forum probably know more than me. You bought a great guitar. Enjoy it.

Hey Dan,

I bought a LukeIII HSS, olive gold, all rosewood neck for 1500€.

I originally bought it, just to try it while waiting for my Albert Lee PDN to arrive. (Still waiting by the way...)

And this guitar is going nowhere, IT'S great! I love just everything about it!

That was a first year Luke 3. The sunburst was a GC special color, but everything else is stock for that year. Luke decided he liked the roasted neck more in year 2 and that's what you have now. They are killer guitars and the all rosewood neck is highly addictive.

Dan,

it's allright. The 2012 models have rosewood necks and the boost at the tone pot. From 2013 on the neck changed to roasted maple and the volume got the boost pot.
Be happy! The rosewood neck is awesome! I love my Luke III and I never sell this guitar.

Thank you all for your very kind replies... I was more than I bit worried after reading the specs on the MM website.

I should be coming home within the next week or two, I throw some pics up then.

Now, what would be a good amp to go with??? Budda Superdrive? ENGl gigmaster?

I just spent countless emails with "Browndog". Jeff is a long time forumite. He and I were both Egnater fans. He just traded up to a Mesa Boogie Mark V/25 combo and says it blows away every other amp(Orange,Engl,Trainor,Line 6,H&K,Blackstar,etc). I'm very curious as I love my Egnater.

I've owned a triple rec, a tremoverb head, a subway rocket and a f35.....

I like Mesa's, but i don't think I will be going down that road again. I really like the idea of the transatlantic models though

I played a few Egnater's and they seemed nice.

I played a Budda Superdrive 2 18 combo and really liked it a lot.

I want something that could keep up with a drummer, but i won't be playing gigs or anything.

Welcome to the forum! The Luke III is an amazing guitar. I love my rosewood necked Luke III.

Amp selection is highly subjective so it's hard to give advice. Any high quality tube amp will do nicely. I'm not a techie computer guy, but those axefx2's sound good, too. Good luck!

I just got a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister. It rocks. I like it because I can adjust the wattage with the powersoak feature (18 , 5, or 1 or 0 watts). I do a lot of studio work and I never realized how loud one watt can be. There are many great amps to choose from and I'm sure you'll get good advice on this forum.

Sorry to correct, but the Mark Five 25 is only available in 'head' form so far....
I'll be surprised if they don't offer a combo version in the near future though...

Sorry for the crappy pics, I'll get better ones in the light tomorrow. ..

We have a EBMM Luke 3 HSS, NOS with the solid rosewood neck and the push/pull boost on the tone knob. 3 color sunburst.

Second we have a Fryette / VHT Deliverance 60 combo. Yes they made a combo! This is serial number #9 out of only 26 made. Factory upgraded with the Fryette serial FX loop.

This is a seriously amazing amp guitar combo! The active boost on the Luke truly makes the Fryette sing!
