My 11 year old son, a budding bassist, had a science project where he had to create a physical representation of the titanium atom. Add some fuzzy stuff to show the protons and neutrons in the middle and an old set of EB Slinkys with glued on beads for the electrons and voila - one titanium atom!

Slinkys rock, even in 6th grade science class!

anybody heard the Brian Regan bit about science fair, its very funny... its a cup full of dirt, I call it, "cup of dirt".

Brian totally cracks me up! Brilliant use of the strings, missing the EB tag so the other kids can buy them as well.

Old strings go all right as kebab skewers on the BBQ as well. Being flexible, they're more space efficient than straight skewers

Considering the Finger Funk coating my old strings when they are removed, I am not so sure I would want to have them touch anything that I would eat.
