sorry guys but I have to know
Is it possible to put a Jazz bass neck on this Fender 51P bass reissue ??
without having problems with the scale of the bass ? in other words is the Jazz bass neck as long as the 51P bass neck ??(or have as many frets ?)
Many thanx already and sorry !!

Ernie,
Let me put the disclaimer right up front: I have seen a Jazz neck on Precision , so it's not impossible. I have no idea what (if any) issues went with it, so I don't have anything that 's really going to help you.

My real reason for posting is not to offer advice , but to ask WHY?
IMO those 51 reissues are Really nice. You'll learn to love it , don't mess with it!
The 51 and 58 reissues are real close to the originals and some of the best stuff Fender ever put out. I had a shot at buying an original Broadcaster(made by Leo Fender himself) several years ago and that 51 reissue is not far off the mark. That's the bass that started it all.

Enough of my sentimental pleading  Just had to say something.

the heel of the neck of a 51 re-issue is square and the heel of a Jazz bass is rounded. The heel got rounded when Fender made the changes to Pbasses in 57 ( also the split pickups, changed headstock, improved bridge, and different pickguard.) When the jazz basses came out they used the rounded heel that were then used on Pbasses. The neck from a jazz bass might fit in the pocket but there will be gaps where the neck is rounded and the pocket is not.The scale is the same (34in ).I really love the 51 re-issue and would not want to change it if I were you - I find the re-issue necks very comfortable to play and love the sound of the single coil pickup -especially with TI flats....you get one gorgeous old school thump.I also like the very thin vintage style frets on the 51 - although the reverse tuners take a little getting used to.You should put the proper covers and a tug bar on that baby to complete the look.

I just want to combine the cool thin neck of the Jazz bass (As I also prefer the sterling above the stingray :D ) with the "simplicity" of the 51P bass body with the 1 pick up and all... also like the string trough body part  I also would let the PG off  make it as naked as can be !!!

They are usually very open about discussing other makes on the F***** forum.I think most of the guys there also own other basses.( a lot of them also use and love Music Man basses).Sometimes they can get a bit cranky though....(edit) also if you take the pickguard off the 51 re-issue there is a small channel routed for the wires from the pickup to the control plate. ( the originals did not have the route and also had phenolic saddles on the bridge)

That's what I was thinking. Warmoth might make you a Jazz neck with a square heel.

EDIT: Checked, apparently they don't.

EDIT2: Actually, USACG will, I think.
