Hey kids.

I've been thinking a little today. Actually, before we get there let's preface it a little. I was at my local music store today and got the opportunity to do a few things. I played a BFR JP6. I'd never played one before today. I'd held one for a moment, but today I actually got to dig in and get a feel for it. I also played a left handed Axis Super Sport. It was actually a Rosewood Axis SS I'd previously owned. I was just killing a little time and decided to give it a go. A few thoughts came to mind, and this now brings us up to speed:

I've been thinking a little today. I REALLY like the JP neck. I don't like the Axis neck. I loathe the Luke neck. I like the Silhouette and Silhouette Special necks. I LOVE the Albert Lee neck. I do believe I've played every model... short of a Morse. I noodled on a Y2D, but didn't put much stock in it.

Where am I going with this? In these very forums, we've all been privy to some fantastic things. The left handed JPs stand out as the most predominant things to have been given to us. Then, there's the Dargies. Then there's the RW necks. As well, we've been given the LE models. I think I've come up with what I'd REALLY like to see happen next. I actually think it's possible too.

As a forum-only thing... on a LE thing or whatever... what if it were possible to get the neck from one guitar on the guitar you love? I bring to example a few things in my own personal reasoning: The ultimate for me would be a Silhouette Special with an AL neck. Reason being is that I find the Silhouette Special neck to be just a little... thin. The AL feels like that baseball bat that some of us just love. I really can wrap my hand around it and dig in. I just love the **** out of it. Another one is that I'd love an Axis if it had the JP neck. It would be a shred monster. I don't like the Axis neck because it is too small for my hands. I find it uncomfortable which is weird because a friend of mine plays one and his fingers are at least half an inch longer than mine. He swears by them though. I got rid of my Dargie Luke for the sole reason that I just did not like the neck at all. It was a great weight, sat perfectly, and felt great... except for that damned soft V.

So, again, maybe as a forum-only thing; how possible is it for say a month... just like the Dargies... to offer a neck switcheroo? I may be out to lunch on the subject, but being a single-coil kinda guy and not wanting to make a stink about why there are no left handed ALs, I just want a Silhouette Special with a AL neck. I just came up with the idea that since the guitars are the brainchild of the artists, then the headstock could only have the "Ernie Ball Music Man" logo and may have a "LE" thing where the model specification would go. That's what I want. I dunno.

I was doing a little perusing and saw that the necks of the AL, Silhouette and Silhouette Special all have the same measurements (as per the neck profile thread started here)... so would it be that difficult to do? I imagine there could be a little bit of work involved with getting a JP profile neck onto a Luke, but how different could the neck cavities and necks be at the joint?

So if the measurements are the same, why are they thought of as different necks? Both (as I recall) have a C shaped profile.

I think that measurement is just the length from top to bottom. It has nothing to do with the thickness of the neck. Let me get my math terms right... the measurements that are equal are the diameters. So, putting the neck into the neck slot shouldn't matter. It's the thickness of the neck that makes the difference. The AL actually feels thicker, having a ... bigger... circumference? I suck at math, so bear with me. It's just a meatier neck that allows for more digging in in my case.

the al neck is wider at the 22nd fret , and it only has 22 frets. it's not interchangable w/ a silo, luke, axis,or pet.
the al, silo special , & morse necks are switchable.
the luke, and axis necks are also switchable.
i think the pet and the 24 fret silo necks are swithable too....but i have never done that. they are the same width at the 24th fret.
(all this assuming you are talking contoured heel models , and may require completly new setup adjustments like saddle heights, intonation, shims and such)

Mini Land at Legoland Carlsburg needs a little guitar making shop with little models of the EBMM workers. Of course all the guitars would have interchangable necks. Only problem with that, Jimmy is that we'd have to shrink you to 2 inches tall and form a little connector on the top of your head so interchangable hats would fit you........

Reading what you want....sounds like you like the axis and the AL neck (sort of a V neck from what I remember) but might settle for a Silo neck....... 25th? Sure sounds close.

If it's not quite there.....I do like the lego idea....it's not THAT far from SLO.
