Hello,

I have a question for 40th anniversary "old smoothie" owners. How do you set up the pickup height?
Mine is at about 4.5 mm (3/32 inch) from the G string as suggested by Ernie Ball FAQ.

I am asking because with the old smoothie configuration, the strings pass in between magnets and thus I don't know if the recommendations for a regular stingray configuration are still valid here.

The output of the bass is a bit lower than my passive basses (rickenbacker, warwick).

Thanks

Yes I set the pickup a little bit closer to the strings, it does not distort.
I wanted to know how the output of this bass compares with a standard stingray. For me it compares with a passive bass.

I set mine the same as I do with all my Rays and passive Basses: depress the E at the last fret and measure 4/32" from the bottom of that string to top of E pole pieces. Same on G side but measure 3/32" plus or minus a tad for even volume all the way across. If set any closer to the strings the pole pieces may restrict string vibration.
