It was the Cherries Jubilee Festival here (this last weekend)...I had gigs coming out of my ears.... Thursday through Sunday.. (there's even more going on this week with the Monterey Jazz festival in town..)

On Saturday I had to play as a solo for a brunch in Pebble Beach (11 AM to 3 PM), then a happy hour at the Embassy Suites in Seaside with a Soul/funk band (5:30 to 7:30) and then as a duet at a private cocktail party in the Highland's area of Carmel at 9:00.

So for the solo & duet Jazz 'background' music gigs, I had brought my Godin Nylon String and for the Funk gig I had my Luke...

Anyhow (difficult to make a long story short), ... the pressure is truly on when one has to meet a downbeat deadline with back to back gigs. Not to mention using different set-ups & different guitars depending on the nature of the gig.

After the second gig, I hastily threw my gear into the van and drove over the hill and down the coast to the Highland's gig (past Monastery beach). Boy was I worn out and glad when that was over... Now I do quite a bit of double header's (back to back gigs) but rarely gig a triple hitter day (though they do happen..)

The next day, Sunday, I had a early evening smooth jazz duet gig at a local restaurant... One where I use either a hollow body or nylon string. During the middle of the gig, in walks the leader of the Soul band with my Luke in it's tiger-stripped gig bag...

Instantly, I realized I must of left the Luke at the Embassy Suites while I was rushing to pack up and drive to the Carmel gig and set up before the clients arrived...!!

Not only did I totally space-out and forget the Luke, but apparently security found it in the bushes in the back entrance near the loading dock. It's only by sheer luck they discovered it and called the band leader up the next day to come and get it.

OH MY GOD , can you dig what a shock it was that I almost lost the Luke and probably may not have realized it until tomorrow-Tuesday (as every Monday night I play for an ethnic dance class down in Big Sur, using my Godin w/synth pickup to imitate sitar, ouds, flutes, etc...) So very, very thankful someone didn't walk off with it.

I guess Ed would say I had some kind of good Karma!!

A good ending. Phew you were lucky.

My mate was not so lucky about 15 years ago he leaves the gig and packs his amp gig bag into the car. He forgets all about his '71 Fender Strat and leaves it proped up against a wall.

No such luck when he realised and returned - it had gone and he never saw it again !!

I sure do know the Slates (played a really silly 4th of July~patriotic~gig with Jeremy in the band at the Beach Club, just a couple of years ago...)

And I knew most of the guys that played with them back in the Canyon band days (Marty Bartoli on drums...!!)

So jongitarz, what's your affiliation with these guys? (small world..):)

Almost ripped off

Damn, very lucky bro!
This happened to me in 1992. I had my EVH #3 ( yeah ever made) purple, a great guitar. it was in the dressing room at this arena in europe and my tech saw some guy walking with a MM guitar case accross the area after the gig. He thought it was strange cause WHY would someone who wasnt playing that night have a MM guitar case??? Turns out it was MY guitar and the guy got into the dressing room and stole it! My tech ran after him and said "Stop". The guy dropped the guitar and ran. I was lucky and this happens with SECURITY!! lesson leraned, never let guitars out of your sight. My son has had 2 of MY guitars ripped off while playin the Whisky a go go and some other chump ass club gigs. they were not my Music Mans but none the less..
Insurance is always a good idea too especially for vintage axes. my '59 Burts is worth a fortune, as is my 51 Esquire but as they are nice and collectors items and do sound great I gotta have My MUSIC MAN LUKE!!
Have a good one

I have known the family for about 30 years. I dated Jeremy's sister from when I was 15 until about 23 or 24. Recently got back in touch, and was up there a few months back for Jeremy's 50th Birthday. Good people.

Hijacker :D

This is why this forum/family is so great. Both the cat who the guitar was made for and the one who made it both pipe in.

Lucidology, great to hear you got your Luke back. It's nice to know there are still a couple of honest people left in the world.

Man l don't know what l'd do if one of my guitars were stolen from a gig, esp. my no. 1 Luke.

Hey Lucious, damn that was lucky with the #3 EVH, the f&*king nerve of some people though, just to walk into your dressing room and walk out with it, l bet you owed your tech quite a few beers for that.

Cheers,

Scott.

I like to hear about things we can be thankful for. Thank you for sharing the good news. I once left my rare sparkly burnt apple petrucci next to my car at a friends house. (It is the red part of my avatar) I drove right off lad left it. My friend was shocked when the police knocked on the door to make sure it wasn't a bomb.

BP, I've been through that thread and JP was lucky himself.

I had a friend who had a Corvette and he got so sick of people stealing the emblemes, rims and generaly wrecking his car that he sold it.

I imagine it's the sameway for artists. Lukes story got me thinking.
