Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where the name StingRay came from? I guess this question is directed at BP, but I thought it might be good for forum conversation...

Cheers! :D

Southern Stingray

Scientific Name: Dasyatis americana.

Home: Warm, sandy and muddy shore bottoms along the ocean coast from New Jersey to Brazil.

Description: Muddy brown, flattish with long tail, diamond shaped, up to 5 feet across, with white belly.

Stingrays are beautiful and graceful swimmers, gliding like flying carpets of the ocean floor! These flattened-out fish are related to sharks and have a distinctive, sleek tail with sharp spines on it. Each spine has little barbs along the edges like thorns, which sting like a scorpion's tail, to defend the stingray from predators. Their sandy-brown color is great camouflage while they dig into the mud for crabs, shrimp, clams, fish, and worms to eat. Stingray mouths are conveniently located on their bellies, so when they find something, in it goes! If a stingray eats a clam, it eats it whole, crushes it up, and then spits the shell out........

Or maybe Leo was a car guy and thought "StingRay" sounded bitchin'.

Unless he was an amateur icthyologist and just liked animals with cartilage?

My jr. high wrestling coach gave me the nickname " Stingray". Little did I know I was destined to play one. At the time I played a Selmer/Bundy alto sax in the marching band, not quite as cool as a Stingray.................

Awww man. Why'd my favorite bass have to be named after a Chevy? I think i'll scratch it off and put F-150. Lol. Sorry. I'm a die hard Ford guy. So sue me. :p

Well I'm a Jeep guy (1986 CJ7, and 05 Wrangler), but that's ok. I'm sure the Stingray car was named after the stingray ocean dweller, therefore, the Stingray bass was really named after the fish anyway :)

We think alike. Wonder what the chances are we are correct?

given my usual percentage of correctness . I think slim.

Been thinking, if EB basses went by virtue of car names then the bongo would have probaby been named after a Pontiac and called a Goat.
