I traded bassplayer7770 for his Sterling and now have two wonderful Sterlings!

But I have a few questions. Has anyone noticed that the maple board necks are chunkier than the rosewood? Also it seems to my ears that the rosewood necked Sterling (which also is skinnier) has a more aggressive tone to it than trans orange. Can strings have that much effect?

Any comments are extremely welcome.

thanks, and now for some pics!

YES strings have a HUGE effect.

The necks shouldnt be different. The rosewood can appear thinner since the maple is all one color, it may appear larger.

Very nice pics man! Congrats on your second Sterling.

You think that Mesa head is big enough?

It has to be big it's got 12 6L6's in there!

You should see the road case for it!

Anywho, The neck doesn't just appear thicker than the rosewood, unless I have completely lost my marbles, which is possible, it is thicker.

i have 4 sterlings and they all feel different. when i got my second one i was positive the necks felt different - however just b/c they feel different doesnt mean theyre actually shaped differently.

i found that w/ 2 "exact" model basses they are gonna feel different for a lot of reasons. strings, weight etc. I found just a hair of a difference in action, string height, pup height etc makes them feel like totally different animals. even a mini turn on the truss wheel or the saddles will turn the comparison from "oranges to oranges" to "oranges and tangerines" (that make any sense?)

there's a lot of machining at MM - a lot of us have seen necks & bodys get cut at the factory tour ... + there's a LOT of QC. rest assured the measurements and all that are identical but there's a LOT of other factors that affecr (or is it effect) how a bass feels.

enjoy your 2 awesome basses!

CMH?

I work in downtown Columbus, but I live in a suburb.
Airport code for Port Columbus (like CVG is Cincinnati/N. Kentucky International)... it gets used as an abreviation for Columbus.

Just curious as CMH was my old stomping ground (still can't believe what they are doing on the campus renovations... some of my most interesting playing was in some of the run down bars on OSU's campus), to to mention that I still have family there and am in town 2-3 times a month.

I'm playing this Saturday night and next Friday night if you're going to be in town either of those weekends. If interested, PM me for details.
