Some people tell me that the only problem with the EBMM Petrucci is the body. They ask me why is this guitar is so expensive and the body is in Basswood.... What can I tell those persons about my EBMM Petrucci guitar....

Personally, I would tell them to shut the *%#@ up, but thats just me. Basswood is a great tone wood and it is what John wanted his guitars made from. Our Axis models are basswood also, and EVH also requested basswood for the EVH model.

I would say if he thinks that is expensive for a basswood guitar he should look at the price for an anderson drop top!

Stop and think for a sec....

sustain lies in the hands of the player.

I can get reasonable sustain out of any guitar that I pick up. I may have to modify my vibrato (finger vibrato, not tremolo-arm vibrato) to tweak more sustain from some instruments than others, but I can get what I need.

Now, since I happen to have an EBMM JP6 guitar, I can assure you that the sustain is no less than any other guitar I've played. In fact, I think it has far better sustain than my Ib@nez RG and S series guitars.

As for basswood, ask your persecutors if they would be willing to attempt to identify wood types based on hearing alone. I bet they couldn't tell if they were listening to maple, alder, basswood, poplar, cedar, spruce or a strung-up piece of Pergo flooring. If they can't identify them by ear, how can they criticize?

Not to redirect the masses to another guitar builder, but John Suhr has been quoted as stating that for him the ultimate tone comes from a basswood body with a maple top....and his guitars in that format reach into the $3 and $4,000 range new....so if your friends are griping about or putting down the basswood body, tell them to eat it....for the most part my best advice is to not rely on th opinions of others....does it sound good to you? Does it play well? Right there...that's the key....

Jeezus! Some Peeps are giving you garbage about the best production made axe on the planet made by the best company on the planet. What do they play...F@#der? G%^son? BC Snitch? The harmonica, the washboard, the spoons? How about 2 cans and a string? Simply put dude, it is like this:

Petrucci wants basswood. He is one of the guitar greats. No more needs to be said.

EVH wants basswood. He is an innovator of the guitar as we know it. No more needs to be said.

Satch and Vai. Yep, basswood. Yep, great. Yep, nothing more to be said.

These People....still asking if you want fries with that burger? Or would you like to "Biggie size that sir?"

(NOTE- There is NOTHING wrong with working at these places, just making an analogy that is all...so no bashin' on me)

Plug that EBMM JP in, crank the amp to 11, rip out a molten steaming hot lick and let the last note SUSTAIN........till their friggin' ears bleed.

Then, once they recover from the fetal position, kick them in the a$$ and tell them where they can go buy a EBMM and come to the forum so myself and others can "Welcome them to the addiction" and laugh as they see the errors of their ways......this is just a simple process.

Stupidity should be painful. In this case, it can be and should be. But, it will be beneficial once they see the awesome power of an EBMM in their hands.

So, I challenge them to this. Play one. Don't talk. Shut up. Play one and then tell me about it. Don't feel bad when you want one so bad you can taste it. It is okay if you wet yourself with amazement. You can admit to us that you love it.

Print this out and let all those who doubt the EBMM read this and let them take the challenge. I double dog dare ya!

If guitars made out of plexiglass/lucite can sustain enough to cost $$$$.$$ (Ibanez JS Millenium), so why not a handmade EBMM guitar made out of basswood?

There are hundreds out things that could affect the sustain way before the wood does... strings, bridge, pickups, nut, the amp, the player.

Dude, wield your axe with pride, it is an EBMM JP Signature Guitar.

Leo Fender was criticized in 1950 for using cheap ash instead of mahogany in the Telecaster.
A "cheap" wood is cheap because it's available in large quantities, and has nothing to do with the tone qualities of the wood.
