BP and moderators,

Can I ask the other forumites a question about a specific brand/model acoustic? I figured since EB doesn't make acoustics it might be okay to get some opinions on here. I wanted to find out if it were okay before asking.

Has anyone owned or known anyone who has a Martin OMCPA1 or DCPA1? I'd like to get an acoustic guitar in the next year and there are only about a zillion models of each brand.

I checked out a couple of Collings and McPhersons, but they are just way out of my price range. Awesome guitars though. I played an OMCPA1 for about 10 minutes, but wanted to get some more opinions. Thanks

It's all personal taste. I've never liked Gibson or Martin acoustics but I really love Taylor and Guild and Breedlove. In more affordable guitars Yamaha rank high on my list and in the lower end of the market I've fallen in love with more than a few Cort acoustics.

And this is my 1,000th post! :D

They're not the sexy choice in acoustics, but I really love my US made Ovation 12 string and plan on getting a 6 string too.

For the price level, Breedlove makes some really great acoustics. Last time I was at a guitar store and played a mid-range Breedlove, it was an amazing guitar for what they were charging.

If money isn't a big concern, go Martin. ;)

If green guitars were more popular, Steve Vai's Ibanez Euphoria would be nice:

If your looking for the same level of qualilty, consistancy, and customer service you get from EBMM, go Taylor. I"ve had 1 or more in my posession since 1994 and never had a bad one.

+1 on Taylors. Bought my daughter one of the smaller ones sounds great. For pure indestructibility, go with a round-back Ovation.

Taylor. There are so many options for woods and shapes. With the names you mentioned, you can start at the 500 series and go up as high as your wallet allows you to. I personally own 3 and love them all. I have the 610 (maple), K22 (koa), 855 (rosewood). FYI, the koa will take a few years to set in the tone but well worth the wait.

My brother had one of the "budget Martin's and it was actually a very nice sounding guitar. I am on my second Yamaha (1st stolen). It's a mid range model ($550 new) and looks beautiful and sound pretty darn good. Low end is not quite as present as some my brothers but it plays a little better and the tone is brighter. I had one Ovation. Sounded good but that sucker would never stay on my lap, I grew to hate it and then the necked warped to the point it was not comfortable to play. Recently thinking about adding a new acoustic and I fell in love with a Taylor 810CE (I think was the model) $2900 new and way outside my current price range but man was it sweet. I played several Taylors and enjoyed them all, better than the Martins or Gibsons but that's just one persons opinion.

Thanks for the recommendations. I would definitely like to check out Breedloves if I can find one to play somewhere. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I know nothing about Maton.

I've had two Taylors over the years and they just aren't for me. GREAT guitars, but mainly for fingerpicking and light playing. I had an 810CE with 13's on it and it had zero bass. When I bought it, I was into more mellow type of playing and it sounded great. When my playing became more rhythmic and aggressive, it just couldn't cut it sonically. I then had a T5 years later, but sold it pretty quickly. Just not any oomph from the pickup selections, even straight into a PA. Again, they are great guitars, just not for my style and what my ears want to hear from the guitar itself.

My first acoustic was an Ovation decades ago, which served it purposes well, but not what I'm shooting for now.

Money is always a concern unfortunately.

Maton will be hard to locate stateside seeing they are a Aussie guitar company. But their Tommy Emmanuel signature models are outstanding. Their electronics are also excellent. I'd normally mic an acoustic guitar but some guitars have amazing systems on their acoustic electrics.

Interesting and good insight. I was just blown away by the ease of play and overall feel of the 810CE but I am not a very aggressive acoustic player. I tried it out in the acoustic room at the local Guitar Center so I didn't really play it like I was on a stage either. Before I consummate that romance (if ever) I will give it a more intensive tryout. Thanks for your feedback....I do stand by my recommendation for Yamaha's. One with a solid spruce top will age well (says an old man) and is great bang for the buck.
