just a stab in the dark here. strung up both my JPs a couple weeks ago, ones a 6, ones a 7, and i noticed the strings on the 6 started to sound dull alot faster. the set i put on my 7 still sound fairly new

does anyone have any experience with strings lasting longer on a 6 over a 7 or vise versa

also the action on my 6 is a little higher, would this have any affect on string life, i dont think so, but thought i would ask, maybe i just got a dud pack of strings

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If they were EB strings we can eliminate the "dud" factor!

As far as the wear difference - I wouldn't think so. Provided all things being equal per setup of guitars.

Maybe you just played the 6 more than the 7? Depends on how much you play it really, I play my JP for hours every day and the strings start to sound dull after just a couple weeks.

Well if you want some totally useless mathmetical theory you could argue that strings
on a 7-string guitar will last 16.666667% longer than those on a 6-string.

 :D

haha, thats the funny thing, they were slinky 10s, fresh pack too

i clearly remember playing my 7 much more right after replacing them, its in my hands right now and it still sounds fairly fresh.

setup is pretty much the same, minus a slight action of a couple millimeters. i think it was raised when i put my tremol-No on and the trem claw spring hooks were just ever so slightly off from the original position when i put everything back together

Well since you said your action is a little higher on your six string when you wipe down your strings after playing you may not be cleaning the bottom of the strings. When I wipe down I pinch each string individually holding the top and bottom and ride up and down the length of the string. If you do not do this try it, and you will be shocked there is usually more grime on the underneath part of the string.
