Hey,

I was just wondering at what string height (12th fret, low E) you guys have your balls setup? I have about 1,6 / 1,7 on my Luke and Silo (floating trems) and about 1,5 on the axis. Lower and I get too much buzz (using .09's).

(and yes, those are millimeters..sensible people use metric.. ;) )

BTW I was seriously surprised that Fenders normally have like 2mm or more...(generally speaking)...I wouldn't be able to play with that me thinks.

I don't measure. Just tweak till it plays and feels right.

I measure because I'm OCD. I use the English system because that's how the specs are written in the EBMM FAQs - so I guess I'm not sensible ;). I have mine set to 4/32 at the 12th fret, low E.

I find it easier to bend notes with the action a little higher, and the way I play I can't get as low as others do without too much buzz. At the moment I'm 2.0mm on the bass side, and about 1.7mm on the treble side. That's very comfortable for me. The great joy of EBMM truss rod access is the ease of making small adjustments to your action, literally, in seconds. Just a fraction of a turn can make all the difference.

There is no right or wrong, factory spec may not be comfortable for some people. And it does depend on your playing style - string and pick gauge, how hard you hit the strings etc. Some players will definitely need higher action to avoid string buzz.

The other thing to remember is that because fret wear is never consistent all over the fingerboard, as the frets wear through lots of playing, it'll gradually become be more difficult to keep the strings low without buzz.

I adjust it till it feels right , but I like high action can't play guitars that are too low. plus i use 11s and 12s so the higher action gets me less buzzing

On my JP6 and JP7 I have the action set to about 3/64 on the treble side, and 4/64 on the bass. Both guitars really play well ... once you find the sweet spot for your setup, good idea to note the measurements in case you have a tech working on your axe. That way you can just tell him the measurements ... no guess work!
