I've yet to try adjusting these but it seems now I can fine tune my sound with these. I'd like to give it a whirl on my Sub first and see if I can make some improvements, any pointers? What about the Axis?

I just did this on my Redrise JP on Jan 8th and it made a noticeable difference for the better. I have the original JP pickups in it, and the standard JP switching.

  • I started by raising the middle two poles on each coil 1.25 turns
  • Then I raised the 2 treble poles on the innermost coil of the neck humbucker .75 turn
  • After that I raised the 2 rhythm poles on the innermost coil of the bridge humbucker .75 turn.
  • Raised two treble poles on outer coil of neck pickup just over .25 turn
  • Raised two rhythm poles on outer coil of bridge pickup just over .25 turn

In the bridge position I can now get that desirable feedback onstage or at practice that will sustain for days while still keeping relatively low gain and volume settings. This was a huge plus for me as I often felt as if I had to fight the guitar for those notes or turn up too loud for the other guys to handle. Not any more; I simply turn a little towards the amp, give a tiny bit of vibrato and then let the feedback do the rest of the work - it's like shooting fish in a barrel!

I also get a little more output while in the split (middle position), while at the same time slightly increasing treble response in the neck pickup and bass response in the bridge pickup. I think this helps round out the split position just a little bit, while still giving you that relatively low output split position sound.

The neck pickup also sounds more open and responsive, while still retaining clarity. If I want to riff with the neck pickup I can, whereas before it sounded a bit darker than I liked.

Well the sub is on a pickgaurd. So I adjusted the pickup to the correct height to my ears on the bass string, then I was able to add some volume to the d string by adjusting its pieces. That's all I really wanted to do. I have a nice even sound.

My keys are so old there is no marking on them. So I just put the key in a vernier guage which reads it as 2.33 mm - I'm guessing that a 2.5 would fit?

I just tried a metric 2.5 and that was too big, the 2.0 is too small. A SAE 3/32 fits perfectly.

Edit: I think that equals just about a 2.3, so that matches up with the size Spud recommended.

Dooh - I'm a dork - I shoulda flicked the switch on the digi vernier and given the imperial measurement too =0.09375 = equals 3/32.

What a team !!

So when you buy a siggy model, are the poles at their lowest point? Or are they already set to the artist taste? I really that these are really fine adjustments that some may not hear the difference at all.
