They simply keep the string from rseonating to give you a quick dead thump. I've found that using flatwounds w/ the mutes make for the closet thing to an upright you can get.

Can you buy em seperately?
My Sterling does have a String muter bridge but no string muters.
Only a piece that "protects" the bridge when the muters are not on the bridge ...

Maybe I can buy em from someone who have those muters but doesnt use em eh ?! :eek:
start by asking at your local guitarstore no?:p
