I have a Sterling AX30 and the pickup height can be adjusted just like on any guitar but today I was trying a new USA Axis SS at a local music store and it seemed like the pickups were at a fixed level and could not be adjusted.
Both pickups seemed like they could be higher, especially the neck pickup. What to do?

They're mounted to the body at the optimum height, and non-adjustable.

If you want to raise them, you'd need to put a shim (wood, foam, etc.) underneath.

They're pretty great as-is.
