My JP somehow shipped with such low action the strings are actually clanking on the fretboard. What size allen key do I need to use to adjust the action and what do I do?

Q: What is the best way to adjust the action on my Music Man guitar?
A: The best and easiest way to adjust your action is to use the truss rod. To lower your action, turn the wheel clockwise. To raise your action, particularly if you have fret buzz, turn the wheel counter clockwise. It is always a good idea to make just one or two turns at a time, then play it and see if it needs more adjustment. It normally doesn't take many turns of the wheel to notice a difference.
A "turn" as defined here is inserting an adjustment tool and moving a spoke of the wheel from one side of the opening at the body at the neck to the other side.

That answer is located here: http://www.ernieball.com/faq_content.php?subjectcode=mm_guitars

You can give the trussrod wheel 1/8 of a turn and see if that raises the action a bit. Just put the allen wrench (3mm one) in the truss rod wheel and turn it 1/8 counterclockwise. If you're looking down the neck from the bridge, you wanna turn the wheel to the left. Haven't you ever adjusted the action on your Luke or SR5? Its the same with those.

Uh oh.

I adjusted the action on my Luke with the saddles.

As long as you moved each saddle an equal distance (1/4 turn per saddle per peg) then you should be OK. The main risk of doing this is you might mess up the radius that has been setup to match the radius on the neck.

I was shocked at how much I was able to improve my Luke's action by just a small adjustment on the truss and trem springs. Probably my best playing guitar.
