Hello Everyone,

I just received a MusicMan Stingray which dates to 1976 or 1977 and I need some advice on setting it up. There is a small allen wrench hole on the neckplate, is that to adjust the neckangle on the bass? And do I need to loosen the main neckscrews before tinkering?

Many thanks for your help, it as one awesome bass!!!

yes, that's the tilt screw and it was found on 3-bolt necks. You can use the screw or just shim the neck with something like a business card. You must loosen the single neck bolt near the hole to adjust the tilt screw.

The way I do it is to lower my G-string saddle all the way down - which for me is always too high with no shim/tilt. Then loosen the neck bolt and adjust the tilt until the G-string is where you want it. Realize that after you tighten the neck bolt, the G-string height may be affected as the bolt pulls the neck down into the pocket. After you get the G-string height just right (it may take a couple of attempts), then adjust all the other saddles to get the string action (height) that you want.
