Whoa let's not jump to any conclusions John. He's from Danbury, and most certainly is affected by all of this. Hell, I'm from the other side of the country and am affected. I only want him know his brothers are thinking of him.

I'm from the other side of this planet, but I dropped a tears when watching breaking news on the TV, ...sad, sad, I'm very sad 'cause that happen...

Thanks for the concern, guys.

I'm in Trumbull, about 10 miles south of Newtown. I have no kids and didn't know anyone involved.

It feels like the days after 9/11 around here. Everything's running as usual on the surface, but at the same time everybody's walking around in shock. There's just this feeling in the air that the world has changed.

I thought it was just that it happened so close to home -- there are plenty of rants about how we don't care when people die senselessly overseas but when it happens here it's a huge trauma. Let me tell you, when it happens close to home it really does hit you differently.

But in all the media barrage after the fact, it's becoming clear that this has grabbed the nation by the short hairs.

I respectfully request that we keep the gun and violence debate out of this thread entirely and if it degenerates into such a discussion that the thread get locked. There's enough of that going on everywhere you look.

Today most of the kids are being buried. Please, spare a thought for their families and leave it at that.

I know it hit me very hard. I think the fact that I have a 3 year old who just started per-school in September really hit home. I actually could NOT function at work on Friday. I was just in total shock, and felt so bad for those kids. Innocent kids.

I won't say anything about gun control, but I will say this.

You know how when some crazy fan does A VERY STUPID THING, and runs on the field during a televised sporting event? They never let the camera show who it is, and don't let the person get the glory of being famous on TV.

Why can't the media do the SAME THING when some psychopath does a VERY STUPID THING, and keep HIS Identity anonymous?

Jlepre: I agree 1000%
You can't imprison kids who are antisocial because they MAY cause a crime
The gun laws are the gun laws whatever

I think the only viable solution is a media gag order to take away the platform these shooters are looking for.

Hopefully the WBC decided to go home. They were going to bring their hateful rhetoric and display it at the funerals of the children and teachers.

As for me, my cousin lives in Newtown. His two young boys both attended Sandy hook, and were there that day. They are alive, but definitely not "ok". No one in the town is. The school will most likely be knocked down, and currently they have rented out a vacant middle school a town over where they are restarting elementary school classes.

My cousin lives next door to one of the victims, and also unfortunately lives on the same block as the shooter. I don't know if he has any plans to move, but at present who could really blame him.

Been away for awhile working, to help save peoples lives, returned to the forum today to just start checking the old place out and this thread struck me deep, I don't think I have the vocabulary to say how I feel, hopefully peace to all will prevail at Christmas time, one day.
