I’m looking for some advice if possible please, about my Majesty 8 string. I am in the UK and I imported one of the original 100 of these that were made, in September 2021. Including tax and shipping I paid $5,587.27.

I have to admit i bought it on a whim and the truth is I haven’t played it. The guitar hangs in my studio as a beautiful piece of wall art. My broad intention when I bought it was to hold it through life and maybe my kids would inherit it and even eventually make a profit. That said, in recent months I’ve started to think this thing deserves to be played, and that won’t be by me - I’ve realised 6 strings is my limit.

So, my options are either to hang onto the 8 string, or sell it and use the proceeds to buy a lovely 6 string to add to my small collection. If I sell, I know that yes, this is an incredible and rare guitar, but on the other hand, the market for an 8 string is a tiny fraction of the guitar playing world. With that latter point in mind, a large guitar store in Edinburgh has offered me just £2,000 as a trade in value against anything they have in their store. I would never sell at anything like that price, I’d rather keep it on my wall.

Just wondering what people here might do? Do I keep it or if I sell, what is realistically a target sale price?

Thank you
Bill

I'd sell it. Price it alongside others in Reverb and lower it over time. That's just me. I don't keep any guitars that I don't intend to play. There are too many other guitars in the world calling your name.

Bill, get it sold.

If this is GG in Edinburgh, that number sounds about right from them. Not great, but it gets it sold. If you can strike a deal on a Majesty 6, with discount from them, do it.

I was in a similar situation recently, and don't regret the transaction at all. What you reach for will be worth it.

Wait............ a ten year time warp, and I'm back on the forum 😲
