Hi there ive seen the following guitar on ebay and was after some opinions.http://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300009239338&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:UK:1

I've been after an axis ss for a while now but have had no luck finding a used one, anyway this one seem to be brand new and including shipping it should come to about £700.
But i've heard customs charges are pretty steep over here, does anyone know what i'm likely to end up paying?
Lastly while it isn't the colour i'd choose or the neck i'd live with it because i've heard these are fantastic guitars, anyone have better pics of the candy red finish? as I know pictures don't always do a guitars finish justice, also is there any difference between a rosewood and maple fretboard or is it just cosmetic?
I know i've gone on a bit it's just i'm very excited about the prospect of owning one of these.

Cheers

well thats a fine axe indeed!

The price of taxes etc going into the UK have been qouted here before, isnt it 20% VAT plus another 12% for something else? Someone from the UK will give you the details. its not cheap from what i've read.

I just imported an Axis SS from the US , didnt have to pay a cent in taxes as anything under $1000AUS doesnt incur any fees.

If you get the seller to creatively fill in the paperwork, the customs charges should be quite small.

I'm just worried by how well the EB guitar case stands up to Air Freight Handlers?

- just a thought.

Well, I have imported two. One came UPS, and the other Fedex. One guitar was in a G&G case and the other was an SKB. Neither of the guitars or cases were damaged in any way!

You won't have to pay any import taxes or VAT on this guitar because it is coming from Germany...a nice perk of being in the European Union!!!

So the question then has to be:

Is there any import duty imposed on stuff imported from Australia to the U.K. ?

Have you considered a potentially very lucrative sideline in importing used Musicman's from the U.S. and then re-exporting them to us Musicman obsessives on the other side of the world ?

Unfortunately yes...unless Oz joins the EU but I dont envisage the tectonic plates being aligned in that way for a fair while...

I think even with import duty i'd still be getting a good deal because i've been quoted
£1299 and this would work out about £850 tops.
The thing is i'm not mad about the finish, would it be possible to import one from a shop in america for a similar price?
Least then I could get the finish/neck i'm looking for, failing that anybody got any pictures of their Candy Red EBMM to change my mind?

US EBMM dealers are not allowed to export new guitars out of the country.

They're pretty good.

I took one of mine to France and the guitar was fine, although the case got a couple of scratches.
