Hey guys, to put a long story short, there is a delay on my guitar because basically it didn't pass quality control because of a little chip. They say I can have 200 quid off I buy it, which is 10 percent off (actually £1999), do you guys reckon its worth it? Would there be any structural damage? Anything to look out for? Anyway to patch it up? I have a pic, http://photobucket.com/albums/a276/Zophixan/?action=view&current=jpguitar.jpg
I need answers asap :). Thanks for your help guys!

Who is telling you this? We don't sell guitars that don't pass quality control through normal distribution channels. Where was this picture taken as it isn't from our factory.
I know that we have nothing to do with this offer. If it is from our distributor then maybe it is shop worn or other. Send me more information

but looking at it from a musicians stand point... you will probably end up hitting the headstock on something any way... so you're saving some money! HOwever, it could be a constant eyesore!really...it's up to you...

i don't pamper my guitars..........it would be a no-brainer yes for me..........

if your gonna use it gigging....it's gonna take some hits anyway !!!!!! plus that little ding is only noticeable if you point it out to someone.
now .....if yor buying that guitar to hang in your room and stare at all the time due to it's sheer beauty........(which is understandable )......then mabey not.
it depends on you. are you some kind of neatfreak ????? :D

also........ there is no way ebmm shipped that guitar chipped !!!!!!

Go in (if you can) be pissed, and then make 'em an offer of 15% off and have them throw in a bunch of your preferred strings.

They might do it, or stick to the 10% off and still throw in the strings.
:D

Hehe, I was planning to do that anyway :p

Is it possible that there would be any serious structual damage, would it get worse?

Tommy is right, there is no way EBMM shipped it that way. That being said, UPS has damaged 1 seven string JP headstock (damaged in the exact same location) and 2 seven string JP cases (damaged in the area at the tip of the headstock) on their way from SLO to me, so I could see how it may arrive at the store that way. When I open the boxes for inspection upon arrival, that is the first area I check on the 7 strings & their cases. If I have to ship a 7 string to a customer, I now put a super spongy piece of foam at the tip of the headstock to prevent any possibility of the guitar getting a chip, because of the inept/careless package handlers at UPS and FedEx.

My guess is that the package gets turned upside-down and then dropped....hard

Pete, since I've heard of how good your reputation is; would you recomend it? I think I'm going for it :D! Is there any paints I could use to mask it if I wanted to?

The way they would feed a guitar box marked "This End Up" onto thier conveyors at the distribution centers, it's almost guaranteed that if it falls off the belt, it's gonna land head first, and some of those belts are six feet or more off the ground!

Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it and save a couple hunnert quid, but I'd give it a good once-over first to be sure there's no other damage, including a good half-turn either way of the truss rod wheel, just to be sure...

Although the guys at UPS don't really care, they are pressured to load the truck as quickly as possible. There is no way for them to load packages nicely because of this demand. I have also heard, from insider, if it says "fragile" or "handle with care" they make sure to toss it around a bit more.

I don't know, I'm getting the impression you would rather not have the ding there. You want to touch it up. If you don't think you can live with it, 10% or 15% won't cut it. It will be a constant nag. Could there be more structural damage, I'm not sure, I tend to lean towards no. Jon or others would be able to answer that question. As for myself, I would not do it but I'm anal that way. I want to put the ding there myself but really I want to hang it on the wall and look at it. ;)

Honestly, I wouldn't want to tell you one way or the other without seeing it in person.

For what it's worth, all the EB guitars I deal with are brand new, and that is how I sell them - in perfect factory condition. Ernie Ball Customer Service was very gracious and took care of the issue with the chipped headstock I mentioned above, and the purchaser of that guitar was made aware of the repair prior to the sale.

On other guitars you own, do they have battle scars? Just something to think about...... I know all of mine do, even my '67 Flying V and Blue Dawn JP!

I hope that helps, sorry I can't give you a direct answer.

Guys, I've decided not to accept the guitar, mainly because although I don't mind the little fault, I'm taking out a small loan of cash from my father, who is a perfectionist, and would not want me to accept something not 100% perfect, in fact, he offered to pay the extra 200 quid!.... It must be a chinese thing! (I'm not being racist btw, I am chinese myself :p)!

That doesn't sound very Chinese to me. Getting the price reduced another 10%, now THAT would be Chinese. I'm not being racist either. My best friend in the world is Chinese, and his father is the king of barter!
