I've been toying with the idea of swapping out my SR5 electronics with a new Aguilar 3 band pre. Has anyone used a bass that's had that pre-amp in it? Or has anyone else out there put new electronics into their SR and it's been a good thing?

cheers

Hi,
I'd fitted my SR4 with a Seymour Duncan Basslines preamp and wired the pickup in series. The sound became more versatile, more bottom end and the midrange also produces more drastic changes, plus pulling the volume knob gives you a midrange cut.
I know that tone is a very personal thing but to my taste y has improve its sound. Only problem with Seymours is that, I think, doesn't suite 5 string Musicmans (I could be wrong here).
Bye for now

I have the op3 in my SR5 right now.The 1st thing I notice was the tightness of the lows along with the Bartolini MMC-5 pup that I had(I've since gone back to the stock pup since my son now owns it.)however if you install the op3 with the stock pup it will make it sound even brighter than what it already is,but it did give the SR5 the lowmids that it didn't have before.

Cool, thanks for the info.
One other thing..... has anyone out there gotten a chance to play a BONGO yet??? I'm thinking that possibly that's another option is to just get a hold of the new MM Bongo pre amp (with lo and hi mid controls) and drop that in my SR5......
oh how my wife loves to hear about gear upgrades and the costs they incur.... :D
