I think that some of the more experienced folks making a living with their instruments will tell you otherwise about carrying onboard now days.

I think the rules changed after 9/11

Correct. We've done this topic to death on more than one occasion in the recent past.

Didn't read all the posts as I read the comments when I pretty much asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. Having just gone through customs a couple of times, stopping in london, and then russia with the same trip back - this was my deal.

I put the bass in a normal EB case, ductaped it so the clasps wouldn't open - the bass arrived fine. Nobody broke the tape open, and the neck actually felt better upon arrival. :) They don't seem as uptight at customs as I thought they'd be. Although they practically stripsearched me cuz my cargo pants had about thirty zippers on them that I think set off the metal detectors. Had to remove the shoes too.

Assuming you are getting paid for this world tour, I'd be putting aside some of the money to fund an ATA flight case. Most factory hard cases (yes, even EB cases) are not up to what baggage handlers or roadies can dish out. In fact, a bass can suffer nasty damage even if the case itself appears unscathed by it's journey. The case can be dropped on it's end, and take no obvious damage, but the supposedly protected bass inside could end up with a snapped headstock. I've seen photographic evidence of such happenings on several occasions. Playing stadiums with a borrowed bass would not be much fun.

Yeah it has been done to death. I din't feel like or have the time to search for where BP said it don't work by the old union rules and stuff like that.

A relative new poster had an opinion that at one time was the rule. I was trying to nicely help him out. Should have withheld for a more knowledgable answer.

I ain't that smart all by myself so thanks to everyone that I have gotten that input from.

Guess what? I don't make my living playing a bass either.
