Al HH vrs Luke 3

I've been struck down by some serious gas over the past few weeks for a Luke 3 and wondered if anyone can compare it to a Al HH.

Both have custom DiMarzio pups , 5 way switch and rosewood necks but if the guitars sound similar then I'll probably give the Luke a miss .

Cheers lads..

They sound and feel very different.

With the Luke, the pickups sound very different. The preamp is very transparent, but it is on all the time. The pickups are very articulate and sound kinda hi-fi if you will. They are distinct sounding. You can hear it all over Luke's new album.

The Al HH is darker sounding than an regular Axis. It's hard to say if it's because of the rosewood neck, mahogany body or because the pickups are covered. It just sounds different.

Comparing the two is kinda hard. They are different guitars with different pickups and wood choices. If you like Luke's sound, go for the LIII. If you want something closer to the Axis sound, go for the Al HH. I like both, but I'd probably stick with the LIII if I had to choose between the two.

The LIII guitars are a little heavier that the ALHH. The ones I have tried are in the 8 to 8.5lbs area, where as the ALHH are around 7lbs.

Maybe not a dealbreaker for you, but it was for me with my dodgy back.

Play a Luke. Some can't get on with the V neck. Some love it. The necks on the Al and Luke are pretty different to me.

Thanks for all the replies .
As you can see from my signature Ive already got a Al HH and a true gold luke 2 but I just wanted to know whether there's enough differance in the sound to warrant getting the Luke 3.

It does take me a while to adjust when picking up the Luke because the V neck feels so small compared to everything else I have but after 10 or 15 miniutes it plays like butter.
